Please help. Does anyone know of a way to deal with talking or humming from a light during school.

I love earplugs or headphones. And of course getting a good nights sleep, plenty of exercise, and avoiding junk food while favoring fresh fruits and veggies is priceless.

Teachers are not likely to allow headphones, so try earplugs first. If that doesn't work, then you can try to get permission to wear sound cancelling headphones. There are some headphones that do this. Most sounds can be "deadened" or "erased" by another sound that cancels out the frequency of the first sound. Some years ago some companies started making devices that would cancel out loud and unpleasant sounds in industrial and factory settings. This was done to protect worker hearing, and nerves. Now you can get headphones that do the same thing, and for a lot less money now, too. Neat, huh? :D

I think you can get a special Aspergers-based modification allowing you to listen to music with headphones while you do independent work . . . my school let everyone do this, because studies have shown it helps most people focus, but even if they wouldn't let most people do it if you talk to your teacher or principal privately they'll probably let you do it. Then it's a matter of finding music you can work productively while listening to.

Not for me. They only seem to make things worse.

I often get the feeling that people aren't supposed to eat as many fruits and vegetables as we are led to believe.

I use headphones and music during lectures, I also have light sensitivities and have found that reducing the impact of light (sunglasses) can improve my tolerance to noise.

Humming from light would suggest they still got the "old ball bearing" ones installed. New ones don't make those noise.

They also could be faulty.

I didn't know those exist. I definitely need to look into getting a pair of those.

If you cannot get noise cancelling headphones, you can use a white noise app on a mobile device. I'd of course ask the teacher beforehand for permission to do that and it would not be allowed during tests/exams.

This is a common problem for many diagnosed with ASD.

Allot of that stuff sounds like it needs to be ripped out. Nail tapping, eating, leg-tapping, nail-biting, typing (if done aggressively on a noisy keyboard). Maybe the people who created it, had hearing problems, they is a tongue twister for ye lol

Or tones of people will be effected by it.

in college, u're allowed to wear earbuds or anything really.

if you're not in college, ask your teacher for permission.

or don't - just wear them and see how your teacher responds.

it's not like you're causing harm.

also, if the teacher is unreasonable, get him/her fired.

This is a bad idea. If he/she won't allow you to, make a scene. If you get in problem, politely tell the principal or whoever your situation. Usually they are more reasonable.

I would test out noise canceling headphones fist to see if they work for you. I can "hear" the white-noise frequency so they do not work very well with me, and I can still hear the background noise. Regular earplugs will be allowed no matter what in school if you ask (if a teacher complains go to whoever handles disabilities in your school and you will be allowed). The only problem is that they do not block all the sound out. The best solution in my opinion is to be able to use a CD or mp3 player or ipod or something to listen to music softly, you may need to present documentation to the disability office to get this accommodation but it really is the best option if the music will not distract you.

Obviously this is not a good idea to do while the teacher is lecturing.
