sensory overload
it's been a long time since i experienced this, but last night i was inside a small pub at a party, it was hot, there were people bumping into me left right and center, very loud music, lots of talking, lots of bright colored lights, smoke effects, booze, food...
i was fine for an hour or so (managed to hold several conversations etc), then i just felt really tired/sluggish and needed to take a time out.
normally, i can go for a few hours before i need time out, but i guess this is the first time that ALL sensory triggers were in the same place at the same time. EEK.
it's weird because when i'm working at gigs, i can go for hours, and even days at the bigger events, although to be fair, not all the sensory things are there i.e. there certainly is loud music and bright lights, but i'm not constantly being touched etc.
so i was wondering, is there a way i can get better at coping in these situations? will i get used to it, or will it just keep on happening in the same way?
