I verbalize what I'm going to do ALL the time. My dad HATES IT! :-( "I'm going to go take a shower." IMO I don't want to get yelled at OMG! go clean house first/dishes etc. So I verbalize I'm going to go shower/study/play a videogame etc. So you know that 1) The bathroom is occupied use the other or 2) game/study LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE FOR AWHILE!! !! ! IMO I verbalize to double check that I've done everything around the house. I don't make lists I talk. Ok anything else that needs to be done because I'm going to go study/play a game which equals LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE FOR A LITTLE WHILE! I don't know how NOT to constantly verbalize. IMO I rather do that than get yelled at for OMG! you need to do this first. I usually do "my own thing" the studying/game and get yelled at to OMG! do clothes/chores. :-(

I do the SAME EXACT THING!
I do this at home and every single job I worked at.
"Now I'm going to stock printers!" "Uhhh...alright"
"Now I'm going to take my break!" "....why are you announcing everything?"
I don't know why I do it, I just do.

But I do the same thing with the shower. Someone always has to use it whenever I am in the shower. I avoid this problem by announcing it.

Glad to know I'm not alone in this!

thanks. thinking about it this could be a good trait to have it might get you back on track. Saying you are going to do study outloud verbally you are telling yourself loudly instead of internally so you are more likely to really go study or do your work vs. putting it off. so this could be. Good thing. Wonder what it's called though. to Google!! :-)

I ask 'is it alright if I have a shower?' because I'm famous for my long showers.

I think I tell people what I'm doing more than necessary but not to the point I annoy them.

Maybe try writing a list and ticking each task off as you perform it, or if you have to say it out loud, say it somewhere no one can hear you. By now you should realise you're annoying your dad. If you do have a shower and someone complains they needed the bathroom remind them how they acted before you decided to just shower without asking if anyone needed the bathroom.

Yeah, I do this a lot--I'm usually just announcing it to myself, though... :P

I tell people lots of details they find irrelevant — just not about my routine.

My friend's roommate has AS, and my friend says he announces what he'll do too often,
but he gave a poor example.
He said his roommate once announced, "I'm leaving and I won't be back for the next three days."
I don't think that's a case of TMI.
If a roommate of mine left for three days without saying anything, I'd get concerned,
or at least confused. Maybe that's just me.

(um ... I think I just inadvertently demonstrated my case that I add irrelevant details. :-/ )

Haha! Yes! I actually had no idea other people didn't do this until a few years ago. My brother was like "Do you always say everything you are thinking?" ;) I verbalize pretty much everything I am doing, as if I am running a commentary of my life.

I don't do this, but my mum does to the point where it gets on my nerves. When I'm talking to her in the kitchen, she suddenly says ''I will put the chips in the oven now'' or something, when I'm right in mid-sentence. She does this all the time. But it might just be a habit of her's.

Just if it seems like something that would affect the other person, such as Im going to take a bath. If its something that wont affect them, such as Im going to my room, I dont bother.

I don't do this all the time, but I do it fairly often. Also, when I need to do some task, I start announcing over and over all the steps that I need to undertake. Nobody ever commented, but I do get some strange looks...

Same here. I have learned to control it in most situation, but at home I totally tell everybody what I'm about to do. I will even text my husband when I'm out to tell him that I'm on my way home, etc. I always kind of just thought I was being considerate, and I am constantly somewhat annoyed that I have no idea what my husband is doing. I wish he'd tell me!

I do this all of the time, but did not realize that it was an aspie trait.

Yep I do this a lot.
I tend to think out loud a lot. It helps me keep a track of everything that I'm doing. I think verbalising helps me keep an order and work out a system for the number of tasks I'm doing. I'll often randomly start talking about my schedule to people. Like in work today

"Right I'm going home now and I'm going to watch this show then do this then do this" etc etc.

Suppose other people probably find it annoying but screw them.
