I had my second appointment this morning. Bit surprised at how quick it was. In and out within half an hour. He said there and then that I do have Autism. He isn't quite sure where on the spectrum I am. (he did explain the differences in brief; many of which I am aware of) I think he said I don't quite meet the criteria for AS. I am now waiting for a copy of the letter he'll send to my GP.

Uni are aware (I asked how I get diagnosed) that I am / was waiting for a diagnosis and explained that the diagnosis could get me extra support if required.

I am hoping now that this will mean that I am not forced into doing jobs that require you to actually speak to people like that. Yes, I'm ok with greeting people, telling them that yes I can put your item back for you if you write your name on your bag, etc. but I can't have a full on conversation with people like that.

I was told about a support group in my area and will look that up.

i was diagnosed last year and like you i'm now in a position to choose the right job for me after spending 25 years changing jobs nearly 60 times! other than that, i'm still coming to terms with my diagnosis and trying to work things out.
good luck with your diagnosis and finding a support group, i found one where i live and went along for the first time today. it's good to meet others on the spectrum knowing you're not alone

Thank you :) You're in the same city as me, I see. (Plymouth) I was told this morning by my psychiatrist that there is a support group, something to do with NAS. I have emailed them and have asked for information about this group.

Absolutely nothing.

I've been diagnosed for two years and I still have to work with people.

About the only thing that's different is I now have the stench of a "mental disorder" hanging over my head.
