I have been taking this for awhile now with no noticeable improvement. In fact, I did some research on it a few nights ago and found out it can cause Insomnia, and Anxiety, which are two serious problems I have that are preventing me from leading a normal life.

It also said it can cause diabetes, coma, and even death. Maybe those are rare, but I'm not going to risk it. So last night I stopped taking it and I won't take it again. I will see how I do without any medication for awhile and if I find I need something then I will research it first, but as for abilify I am through with it.

So has anyone else here taken this kind of medicine? What is your experiences with medicine such as this?

I took it once. There seemed to be no noticable improvement. There were some huge drawbacks to it. I am now off of it.

What is it taken for? Some medications take awhile to take effect.I am nervous about taking any chemicals but have found the Effexor effective for stopping spontaneous crying, which I find really annoying.I dont think it does much for my depression or anxiety but tone them down a little. The biggest problem with taking chemicals to relieve life's traumas....is that it keeps you from developing other coping mechanisms.I developed some very negative coping mechanisms in the past(bad relationship obsessions, cutting, alchohol). The difficulty is knowing what things you are capable of changing yourself and what you are not.I am still working on this.

Hi krex, you're taking Effoexor too? I find that although it tends to help with anxiety (and for some reason makes me a little less prone to taking everything so seriously), the side effects are horrendous (lowered libido and those "shocks" that come with forgetting a dose once in a while) and I find that even on 75 mgs I still get a little hypomania from them...

How much do you take? Do you get those side effects too?

I'm really considering stopping... especially since discovering that maybe there's nothing wrong with my emotional / social functioning - I'm just wired differently and need to find ways of coping with the strengths and weaknesses that I have?...

Hey Psychlone--check to make sure there aren't any withdrawal symptoms; you're in for a miserable few days if there are, and you stop taking it suddenly.

Regarding my experiences with psych. meds: Less is better than many; but some may also be better than none. When I took multiple types of drugs, I felt constantly tired... now, with just Lexapro, I'm feeling OK, and symptoms of depression have been easing off for the past six months. I'm going to talk to my psychiatrist about tapering off it next spring, when the light comes back (I have SAD tendencies, so I want to give myself all the advantages I can).

The first few days of withdrawing from abilify caused me to have a perpetual headache, but it was just a mild headache and I was able to tolerate it. But the headache is gone now, and I am not feeling any other withdrawal symptoms.

I feel much better now that I am off it and I am able to sleep finally. :)
