Diagnosis- questions
So at some point soon here I'm going into OHSU to get "officially tested" on whether or not I have Aspergers, my Dr. and psychologist think I do, but they want it "official". Now I probably won't get in to testing before February(long waiting list no?).
Until then I'd like to learn all about the testing process(yes, I'm one of those people that has to know everything about something before going and doing it, believe me I will know OHSU's layout like the back of my hand before I go in, which is no small feat as the facility is HUGE)
What is the testing process like? what happens? do they ask questions? what kind of questions? details please!
Will they want to talk with my mum? what kind of questions will they ask her?
Also please note I'm a Adult.
Thank you very much.

Hi Trinket. On this forum I've read different things. Some people were seen for about 20 minutes, some for 3.5 hours spread out over two days, and some like me who sat with a clinical psychologist for 2 hours. She's an expert in the Asperger's field and really did ask some of this questions like they have in the online qûizzes. Naturally, she also took notes - mental or otherwise - of my physical appearances. I'm sensitive to light; makes my eyes water fiercely so she closed the blinds. My legs also tend to be a bit restless. It was a very relaxing atmosphere. She was non-judgmental. At least now I know why I'm so weird, why I'm not like "typical" adults, and why I don't fit in anywhere. Good luck.
Thank you,
I believe testing will take part over 7 hours for me, I need to do more research on that because I'm not %100.

I wouldn't do too much research. Do just enough to satisfy the tip of your curiosity, and then let it be.
Why? Because you want to be prepared enough, but not to the point where you know so much that it could skew the results.
Maybe I'm just paranoid. I have testing Thursday, and I got the gist of it, and then let it be. I don't want to know too much and subconsciously "prepare."
I guess, its important not to prepare if you are prone to trying to hide your symptoms. If you mentally prepare, you may hide something that needs to be seen.
Of course, I'm just speaking theoretically.
Good luck!
I'm incredibly anxious about it, I need to know more in order to calm myself.
I just want to know what will happen

I was a bit paranoid about my assessment too. I was afraid the knowledge I had gathered about ASDs and my traits would somehow slant the result. In the end it turned out well, though.

In general I would tend to agree with Esther because people look at lists of possible symptoms and their minds try to justify the symptoms being present even when they're not. I would say if you can be completely honest with yourself research all you want because it may help you organize your thoughts and paint a clearer picture of your issues. But be warned, self honesty is very very difficult for humans in general.
For me the process was filling out tons of questionnaires followed by 2 hours Q&A with a bit of testing. It really depends on the person performing the assessment and how obvious your issues are. I suspect if you're going to do a 7 hour assessment you'll be doing a WAIS IV and WMS IV (Wechsel Adult Intelligence Scale and Wechsler Memory Scale). I've had 2 evaluations in the past year; one by a private Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the second by a state hired psychologist for my disability application. The process was completely different for both of them but both my guy and the state's woman diagnosed me with AS. A good professional who is experienced with ASD will know that we are all as different from each other as NT's are to each other on an individual level. It's the bad 'professionals' who see us all as having come out of the same mold (like cookie mold not mold mold). The problem with asking what to expect on a forum is that people have had many different experience. So now you have a list of 10 different experiences without knowing which one you'll get.
Trink after this long story my suggestion to you would be to not worry. I had HUGE anxiety before my assessment but afterword I realized the anxiety was all for nothing, it really isn't that bad.

Are you going to have a blood test, an MRI, PET scan. EEG, or anything else besides some psychologist asking you subjective type questions?
