I uploaded the CNN special "Autism is a World" to YouTube so you guys can watch it if you want.

I found it really...I guess "eye-opening" might be the word. The special is written by a woman who is autistic and mostly non-verbal. Just watching her, you would assume that she is ret*d, but she's actually got an IQ of 133. However, up until she was 13 (I believe), they thought she had an IQ of less than 30 because she had no way to communicate.

(Part 4 is uploaded but not yet available. It should be available in less than an hour.)

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HphYgLklJX4
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCFr5gIb55U
Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyXpD4zoy6Y
Part 4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIuVoTratPk

I also posted this over at AFF, so sorry for those who see it twice.

Very interesting. Also, I'm just curious but how'd you get it onto your computer?

I borrowed the DVD from the library (my local libraries let you borrow "nonfiction" DVDs for free). I used a nifty and free program called Handbrake to rip the video from the DVD. Then I used iMovie to break it into segments to upload to YouTube.

The woman looks like she has Down sydrome. I wonder why she looks so different. Is it some birth defect she has?

She's an inspiration to us all.

I just noticed that "Episode III" of the Darth Vader grocery store manager videos has an Aspergerish character as a cashier during night shift:

I don't know. Nothing that I've seen on the internet seems to address that. I would guess that means that the doctors don't know. They probably attributed her physical appearance to her supposed "mental retardation" when she was younger, but once they realized she wasn't ret*d, I wonder if they even bothered to investigate.

I guess I just didn't look hard enough before. This page:
http://suedweb.syr.edu/thefci/8-1rub1.htm
says she has "Noonan's Syndrome." Looking that up on wikipedia informs me that it causes short stature and facial "deformities."
