I know some of you really like the high technology things but I don't. I see them as too much of a change. The problem is that I need to keep up with it at least enough to understand people. Any advice? I'm so far behind in it. People ask me to bring them something (doesn't matter what) and I'm clueless.

How can I get to where I can at least understand people talking about technology? I've got to be the only person avoiding going to high-speed internet because the change is too much. Same with DVD....I still use VHS.

I do read as many posts as I have time for, although I miss some. Just know that even if I don't reply much in other discussions and if most of my messages are questions, that I am thinking of you.

Well, I'd say the fact that you are using the internet is pretty good.

I guess you'll... just have to get used to it. Try slowly introducing things. I can't exactly help out, but I know it helps to know people are concerned, right?

WOW! Uhura wasn't THAT ignorant. She even figured out the roman son riddle! Perhaps the only time star trek sounded pro Christian! EVERYONE thought they were SUN worshipers, and figured that made NO sense since everything else was such a close parallel. That WAS reasonable because, like the real roman empire, they seemed to be planet centric. Uhura heard that, and kind of laughed and grinned and said "They weren't SUN worshipers! They were SON worshipers! The son of God, Jesus Christ!"! OK, maybe my memory there isn't PERFECT, but close enough! She had been monitoring their broadcasts the whole time, and heard the heritics described.

Anyway, I'll tell you a couple secrets.

1. When I was first learning English, I would read a magazine, or whatever, and look up every word I didn't know. I then looked at EVERY meaning, and looked up EVERY word THERE I didn't know, and recursed that way. Do this with byte, or computer shopper, and the A/V ads in your nearest store! That was like 40 or so years ago, and I remember it like it was yesterday!

2. Go to the book store, and get a book on the subject most widely presented in your area, read the book, and use it as source for #1. I do this today from time to time.

If you are SERIOUS, and have the time, and have AS, you can probably QUICKLY get up to speed.
