I'm wondering if anyone else uses 5-HydroxyTriptophan instead of SSRI's or MAOI's.

It's a precursor to serrotonin, has very few side effects compared to that of all the SSRI's and MAOI's, I started using it recently, it's helping me sleep, upping my mood very noticably and as a bonus it's making me feel less hungry during the day when I've got very little to do.

A lot of my friends aspie and depressive use this now and they're finding it incredibly useful

I've not been depressive in my adult life, but I have used 5-HTP before to boost my serotonin levels after they got depleted by certain substances, and it does the job for that. I also use it to potentiate certain things (make them more effective).

Taking just 5-HTP alone, for me, at 200mg dose, had some interesting effects. I felt less anxiety about things in general, just felt peaceful I suppose. I took it during a period of high anxiety (having deadlines and such, on top of having to spend a lot of time each day socializing), and it helped lessen the anxiety. The effect was best for me at 200mg or more.

I've tried it and it was ok.

Some people shouldn't take it, such as those who are bi-polar or have allergies to it. But, otherwise, starting with low doses and taking it consistently seems to help people.
