Bad sensory day--lots of LOUD NOISE!

Yesterday and today have been bad noise days for me. Late last year my neighbors on one side moved. The new neighbors decided not to use the existing gas hook-up for heating their trailer after finding an old oil tank and I guess an old oil furnace there. However they neglected to have the old oil tank inspected before spending over $800 to fill the tank. It was old, rusty, and leaky. That was a lot of money down the drain. Also, the trailer had to be moved to an empty lot elsewhere in our trailer park, so a hazmat team could come in and work on the mess. They came a number of times over the months since the accident to work on things. Yesterday, a new bunch of workmen showed up to start restoring the chewed up lot next to me, so it can be used for trailers again. The work is very noisy, and they've been at it today, too. Yesterday was also "empty the septic tanks day" here, so a crew went around the trailer park with a tanker truck and a work truck, to empty them. Today the garbage men are coming. Because the weather has been nice, I've been keeping the windows open, which lets the noise in even better. I finally dug out a music CD and plugged it into my PC to try to drown out some of the noise, but it's not working too good. I think I need some noisier type music, so maybe I will dig out my Polka CD. Everybody! Let's Polka!

I had a bad sensory overload day, too. We have an annual day of torture at work, in which we drive to a strange warehouse in a maze of an office complex, arrive disoriented due to the maze, and proceed to enter an incredibly large room full of strange people (I work for a big organization) and "stations," which are little tables with a stranger and some posters, teaching us stuff we already know, but are required to review once a year with a live person. It's noisy, bright, and full of lots of people with hairspray and perfume and HEELS, who accidentally step on me in my little soft shoes, and then giggle at me when I say ouch.

Now I'm hiding in a darkened bedroom, trying to find equilibrium. I'm almost there...

We just had a relative heatwave in London here, and I was battling between open windows + noise, or, close windows + heat.

I hate it when I can hear loud noises outside. My bedroom tends to be the noisiest room as well, you can hear everything. Lawn mowers bus me, weed whackers bug me, neighbours blasting their music in their garages bug me, children playing street hockey bugs me and the constant rotation of teens zooming around in their cars and screaming annoying the heck out of me.

Redrobin62 the Twist sounds great, but my Twist days are long over--two bad knees. The music is fun, though.

Pipilo, sorry about your having to run the gantlet, or is that gauntlet? Did they blindfold you before making you go through that? It's more challenging that way. Well, chill in peace, quiet, and darkness. At least I only have neighbors on three sides. A few yards behind my trailer a big, undeveloped mountain starts going up. There is no light at night, and no people sounds there, except from an occasional group of kids walking there. The only other sounds on that side are from birds, squirrels, chipmunks, and cats. My trailer park is kind of quiet at night because of that mountain, and because the managers don't let things get noisy at night.

SteelMaiden, early this morning I debated whether to close the windows due to it having gotten cold, or leave it open, as it would be warming up, and left them open. Once the work started I wanted to close them due to the noise, but the fresh air is too nice, and it has warmed up some, but isn't hot, and not likely to get hot today. I did turn the heater on in the bathroom with the door closed before though. I had to go too bad to run around closing all the windows left open from yesterday. I have IBS and have to be in there a while usually, so I wasn't about to sit there with my pants down, freezing the whole time. I also had a hot breakfast, so that helped too.

I actually like the idea about the blindfold for next year's day of torture. I might throw in some earplugs as well, and, oh, I don't know, maybe a spacesuit with helmet? I'll enjoy the day more! Might learn more, too.

I'm quite recovered now, though, hope you are, too.

Just blast some noise through your speakers...that`s what I do. There is construction going right across the street under my windows, drives me crazy. When playing back noise it at least drowns out most of the sounds and there is not that much of difference between silence and sudden bursts of sounds from drilling, throwing planks and whatnot...so yeah, white/pink/brown noise might help when it gets unbearable.

1) CLOSE YOUR WINDOWS!! ! Seriously, how can you deal with the noise with open windows? No weather is THAT nice.

2) Ear plugs. I swear by Hearos ear plugs.

3) Then, add music.

And/or

4) Find somewhere to go during the day.... stay at the office for the evening, Starbucks, library, etc.
