Is there anything in Autism that would cause someone as a little kid to have an large-oval head and what would appear to be large ears that stand out?
Here's a novel thought: Do you think this might have something to do with sensory issues such as hearing?

not sure, but I doubt it's as simple as that...

The whole science of AS and Autism isn't even a century old (just a scootch over half a century..;)
so it's going to take some time to completely figure it out. I've been told a longer index finger is a possible indicator, but who knows?

That is an interesting idea that you have put forth. I fit the description, I have a very large egg-shaped head and rather large ears and I am able to hear many things that other can not hear especially within music. I wonder if there is any research to support this idea?

I had a larger head, right now, it is EXACTLY average. I don't think my ears have EVER been larger, but they have always been hypersensitive.

I felt my ears were big as a kid but I still didn't have above normal hearing. My mother told me I used to complain about them being big. Well kids in my school said I had big ears. Then that blew over and they went onto saying something else about me. They might have just been saying it to upset me anyway and congradulations, they did. I just took it literal.

I think I have large ears, but suprisingly, not many people made fun of them when I was younger. I also have normal hearing, but I do hear things that others don't. I think this is because I pay attention to things other people could care less about.

giant head, to the extend that some ppl say i look more like an icon than an actual human being
looks like a typical aspie would have larger head(and brain) than NT's,
I've seen it mentioned no "professional" documents as well as part of a diagnosis/

Hmm... and I read somewhere that a longer index finger also showed you were better at sport. Doesn't seem to fit for us... :P

I have a slightly larger than average head, and my ears are large as well. My ears do hang tight to my head though, so it's barely noticable. However... I have an elf ear...

Autism no, but Fragile X.

A long face and huge ears can be a trait of those with Fragile X.

I've read articles that say that autistic people have large heads relative to their bodies (nothing about ears though). I haven't yet come across any proposed reasons. I know my own head is disproportionately large for my body. I have two NT sisters who are both taller and bigger built than I, and have smaller heads. They used to laugh at my big head when we were teenagers! I'm not aware of my ears being particularly big.

I seem to have a large head, a bumpy eyebrow/forehead bone, somewhat long ears, and big hands and feet. I can also wiggle my ears - which other people I came across who saw me do it asked me "How'd you do that?", In which case I replied: "Because I can. Why? Can't you do it too?" ... apparently not everyone can do that... something I learned as kid lol.

Although people with AS may appear to have larger heads than norm, their heads are average size. They look bigger than average because of narrow, weakly-built shoulders.

Why would you think that autistic people have narrow or weakly built shoulders?

It's just a prevalent trait I've noticed in the vast majority of people with Aspergers I see (whether from personal experience or viewing photos on this or other websites) - might even call it a phenotype.
