And when I say this I mean YOU as an aspie, how asperger's/autism affects you personally, not in a general sense.

I see my AS as a gift that adds spice to my personality. It also gives me a unique way of looking at the world. :)

Asperger's is a wonderful gift to me. It has given me talents and interests that I love.

I would say a gift and a curse, so I didn't vote.

I see no question about this, except that of the first 3 people who posted I'm the first who said neurological disorder.

I have no clue how people could respond anything other than "neurological disorder"

A neurological DIFFERENCE.

I picked neurological disorder, although my first choice would have been "a bloody nuisance".

That is a good point CockneyRebel, I forgot to mention in my response that it also gives me a unique way of looking at the world too.

I think of my Asperger's as a "difference" that has given me a fascinating journey in life. And in that journey I have met some fascinating interests that make my life highly enjoyable. No two people are alike in this world, and the differences within the autistic community are as vast as the ocean. For this reason, we all see our autism in a unique way---and that is part of my unique way of looking at the world---in a way I doubt anyone else sees it. It is therefore difficult for us to fully understand how others view their autism. But we all see our autism in our own unique way, and we are thus allowed to define it in the manner in which we feel it fits us.

Where's the option 'A gift and a curse (depending on the day)'?

Asperger's - A curse you LOVE to hate.

(Or is that Asperger's - a curse you HATE to love?)

Awesomely awful! I like my thought patterns because it allows me to see things others miss but I hate the fact that other people don't seem to want me around. The loneliness is the killer because even when I am around other people I never feel like I am one of them or accepted completely by them. My heart yearns for someone to connect with and love but it seems that no one wants me in return. Sorry but just because I am socially blind does not mean that the desire to connect has been removed from me. I may have the need for a lot of alone time but that doesn't mean I always want to be alone.

Me too. Survey options are too narrow.

There are quite a few leading psychologists who will describe Asperger's as a "difference" or a "condition" (neutral terms) rather than a "disorder" or "illness" (often seen as negative terms).

Most days I try not thinking of it as a gift or a curse, rather, a difference, a different variation of strengths and weaknesses from "ordinary" people, however, there are some days when I'm fully aware of the fact that at its core it is a disorder, and a difficult one to live with.
