I am very happy that i get along with most people on wrong planet..... do you ever find on other forums otuside of this site when you try and discuss things or start threads about topics you usually getting mocked by other posters on those sites?

For instance on wrestling forums i constantly clash with other posters when i debate things or start a thread and get accused of trolling when that is not my intention at all. I am saying this as well becasue on another site a few minutes ago i was getting called some nasty things by other posters such as "idiot", "stupid" and "troll" etc.... :( I am a bit hurt because i am not trying too be a bad person or anything but people on these sites seem too take what i type so personally. Mind you there was a point 2 years ago when i got into a heated debate with a few posters on this site. On the wrestling forums also a lot of my threads keep getting closed down by other posters even though i am just trying too do an inoccent debate.

Do you think maybe sometimes wrestling fans inparticular can be abusive on forums because they tend too be meatheads?

I make NO CLAIM for understanding wrestling fans!

But its not uncommon to see aspies on aspie websites complaining about being misunderstood on nonaspie sites.

One young lady in britian on another aspie site complained about how people were offended by what she said "between the lines", and she said wouldnt even know how to have subtext if she wanted to.
"With me there is no 'between the lines'!"

So maybe you're like her- you dont know when it appears that you are insuating things when you're not.

I have one heck of a time if or when I venture onto other forums. Even more than I do on WrongPlanet :P

A forum doesn't even have to be about something nearly as combative as wrestling, in order to have an aggressive atmosphere.

For example try one forum I've been on, viz. City-Data.com. Ding ding.

People are pussycats on WP. I agree that the people on City-Data are very antagonistic and IMDB is only slightly better. I don't think it's bad here, because the mods are a lot less tolerant of aggression and ridicule, probably due to the subject matter.

I would hope that on WP, if someone was perceived as being "negative," they'd at least be given the benefit of the doubt as to their true intentions.

All the time! I deal with it by learning to be really good at damage control, and apologizing when someone misinterprets what I meant to say. I just say 'sorry, that didn't come across the way I meant it to' - and then agree with their point (or at least a part of their point)... And usually that smooths it over!

Also I try to preface everything with "I think" or "In my opinion"... It seems like a no-brainer to me that people on forums are offering their own opinions, but if you don't specifically say so, someone takes it as a statement of absolute fact, and then tells you you're wrong... It's so confusing! Haha

I find I tend to clash with people outside of WP aswell, I find 'reading between the lines' really difficult so when people assume I'm talking between the lines so to speak it creates problems. I'm perceived as being rude when I'm really not.... I like how on WP most of what is written is ment how it looks, no need to try decipher what someone means

Well, in general I get along fine with the folks on other fora I visit or have visited... Most of those boards are populated by nerds/geeks, so there's something of a mutual understanding to begin with.

BUT I have at times been accused of being 'passive-aggressive' when formulating posts in a way so as to not insult others, or to present a controversial opinion a bit more subtly. I also tend to use "I think" and "In my opinion" just like Ashariel said above. I still get called things like 'freak', 'sociopath', 'tilting at windmills', sometimes.

I haven't encountered stuff like that here on WP, but then I don't read WP as frequently as I used to read CBR.

Yeah, WP is about the only forum I have felt able to make a good go of. Otherwise it's a big bad world out there, and a thick skin seems to be pretty much a prerequisite for other forums, including the wrestling one the OP described. Of course conduct counts and you have to watch what you post, but I don't think that's the OP's problem because when he offends people on forums, he has done it unintentionally. If you're young in your posting history on a forum, you get jumped on.
