That is awful...
I support the use of cameras in a special ed setting, useful to detect behaviour like this, but also incredibly useful from a therapy point of view. Can't count how many times something has happened at school, where the teachers want advice from us (the parents) or therapists... it would be so useful to be able to pull up the video of what is going on, to see the exact situation.
Home schooling is a wonderful option, for some, not all. As much as I'd want to do it, I couldn't. I would totally burn out and that wouldn't be good for my kids or me. Also, for my eldest I think it's important that he is around other people, to learn to communicate with others, independance and social skills. Unfortunately, I can't be there every minute of every day and he needs to learn that. I trust my son's teacher, she is a good one.
I also have to say I have met so many wonderful and dedicated teachers and aides over the years, I would never ever suspect them of behaviour like this, I do believe they are in it for the love of the kids and would never hurt them. It seems this one was really messed up, I wonder how long it took the aides to speak up, it seems it wasn't on the first day that something abusive or inappropriate happened, that is as big a problem.
