I keep getting this gut feeling, apparently identical to 'butterflies' one would get when expectant, in situations which merit absolutely no such emotion - primarily when trying to sleep. I know the very process of sleeping evokes all sorts of random emotions due to its relationship with the subconscious... but *before* falling asleep? (Then again, until a few months ago I noticed my dreaming starting sometimes as soon as I lay down in the bed, so I suppose it may be of parasomniac origins.)

Do you have insomnia problems? I know I get into the vicious cycle of insomnia pretty easily: stress leads to insomnia leads to stress at night leads to insomnia leads to a copy of a copy of a copy.

Same thing happens to me every now and then, don't know why.

I get that too, just this random feeling of anxiety for no very apparent reason, happened yesterday as a matter of fact. It comes on suddenly, then goes away as I forget about it, but comes back every time I remember it, and is completely unwarranted. I find it extremely irritating, though fortunately for me it only happens during the day. I have no idea what causes it, during the day or night. If it's preventing you from sleeping, I'd talk to your GP, he might be able to suggest something.

Tyler Durden, hello there!

Fortunately I don't have straight-out insomnia so far, even though my sleep has been broken for many years, but oftentimes I fear it's the start of it. After all, I imagine it doesn't come on spontaneously, right?

Many times I have experienced the REM stage immediately on sleeping. As soon as I slipped into unconsciousness I would dream. I've read that's a Hallmark for clinical depression.

I was a sleepwalker, still a sleep talker, and I have bouts of sleep paralysis. I have never felt a "butterfly" before sleep, but randomly, such as getting up and first walking around the place. Stress evokes this part, in fact, any stress causes all of "this."

Could your symptoms be related to severe stress? Severe stress as in a past event(s) but a little stress now, is a harbinger of this reflex- memory?

Mdyar, yep - some years ago I felt sheer despair as I was locked in parental abuse with no help whatsoever.

Every morning when I wake up, I feel like I've just consumed a whole pot of espresso. Doesn't matter how well I sleep, nor the method by which I am woken. It fades after about an hour.

Random anxiety sucks. I don't have anything more productive to say then that : /
