"He's a fully-functioning individual," people would say about this Aspie or that autistic... and my mother wpould use "a mature PERSON", putting an emphasis not on "he" or "is" or "mature" but on "person", as tho immature or dysfunctional people, in the opinion of the people that said that stuff, are not individuals or people. Do you find that?

I was taught to use person first terminology. Always a person with Autism instead of an Autistic. I know a lot of people here are comfortable calling themselves Aspies, but it was so drilled into me in school that people should never be referred to as if they were their disorders that I can't bring myself to refer to anyone like that.
