i'm in nyc and i went to one meeting with the local GRASP group. this must have been around five years ago, just after i'd been diagnosed.

it didn't go well. the meeting was fine but there weren't really any people my age (20 at the time.)
worse still one guy there decided to hit on me later though he was over ten years older than me!

i hate being hit on by people i've just met on the best of days. it's even worse when the guys doing it are way older. sadly, 10+ is on the low end. i've had several 50+ guys hit on me.

sigh, maybe it's because of my reserved manner, compared to most women (and people) my age.

anyway, back on topic: anyone have any real life support group experiences?

I've belonged to Square Pegs meetup group for months but have never went to one meeting. (Can you imagine? A meetup group for people who don't do meetups? Duh!)

I've tried two groups and quite enjoyed both of them.

I have never tried any support groups in real life, for anything really. The internet works the best because then I can remain anonymous and not need to worry about meeting other people. It's much easier to read what someone else types and then reply just by typing.

The topic has been suggested to me several times but I'm more than a little intimidated to go. I worry a lot about age and location whenever the topic comes up.

I have gone to a couple of GRASP meetings in San Diego. I enjoyed them a lot. I related to the people, and it was soothing to be amongst autistic people for a change. Most people were older than me, but that was OK, because I relate well to people outside my age range.

I am a member of a woman's Asperger group, that meets once a month at the local Autism Ontario office. We discuss female AS issues, socialize and plan outside activities. The ladies are great. I really enjoy their company, and can relate with them.

There is also a mixed group, but I am not interested in attending it.
