i have noticed that alot of my topics are bassically " is this normal?" or "help me!", and i am often asking for advice. this topic is not a help me topic, i am just curious,

i have been sleeping with a stuffed toy tigger that i call hobbes all my life, i need to cuddle up with something that isn't warm, the problem is i can't sleep without it. it is starting to obstruct my life, i am losing respect from people. and i am embarracing myself when i have to explain to them that. but since hobbes has been par of me ever since i met my aunt for the first time (at age 10 hours... or something close to that) and it is something that i appreciate... it would cause alot of greif if i had to give him up. i was just wanting to know what you think i should do. :?

How do people find out about your sleeping arrangements?

I'd not have a problem with knowing that someone slept with a stuffed toy. Unfortunately many people are daft and easily prejudiced, and we need to put up with that. The best advice I can offer is to have a sense of humour about it, but remain confident about who you are. 'yeah I sleep with a stuffed tiger, you got a problem with that? 8O'

It's been mentioned on the Voyager series that the character B'Elanna Torres takes a stuffed Toby the Targ with her when away from home for more than a few days - and she is presented as a confident and respected person.

I *need* to wrap myself around a pillow. If I had a Hobbes, I'd wrap myself around that.

When my Mom was in hospital, she wrapped herself around a pillow and the nurse said, "We all do that." So it's not weird. :)

Maybe you should develop Attitude, and get a puppet, and make them talk to the puppet, who will explain why there's nothing wrong with sleeping with a tiger.

It's so absolutely none of their business. Tell them you're not so impressed with whatever they sleep with. Or have the puppet tell them. Make them wish they'd never mentioned it.

otoh, maybe you could try a pillow?

For myself, I'm saving up for a weighted blanket. But I'm not giving up pillows, and I'm not giving up sleeping with my dawg either.

i sleep with stuffed animals for comfort too and i truly don't care if people thinks it's "childish" or "strange" because at least i'm comfortable. it's not hurting them in any mental, physical, or psychological way is it? so what's wrong? perhaps, they have concern for me and if they do, then i can assure them that i'm fine(well, for now :)).

Most people like to hold something/have something wrapped round them.
With me, it's either cuddling my favourite pillow or entwining the duvet round my legs.
My (totally NT) husband sleeps with a teddy bear, and he's in his late thirties.
And the nurse who did my last sleep-deprivation EEG didn't bat an eyelid at my cuddly Hello Kitty (in neurosurgeon scrubs!) - she said more than two-thirds of her adult patients brought 'friends'.

Maybe you could hide Hobbes under something when you sleep.

I need to have my Routemaster piggy bank on my night dresser, which is to the right of my bed. The left side of my bank needs to be visable, because that's where the indent of the half-cab and the pole at the back is located. I'm left handed, but I'm happy that my night dresser is to the right, so I can see my favrourite side of my Bus bank.

Ding! Ding! :)

I sleep with a polar bear from sea word....klondike. before him, it was a classic pooh that was lost in a hurricane. pre-pooh, it was a teddy that belonged to my dad.

it is a part of you....that need...and people should understand it. if they don't....well. the exit is to the right.

:)

Everybody needs a comforting something to help them sleep! I have to clutch my pillow tightly in my arms and curl my hands / wrists in tight little balls underneath it, almost fetus-like, before I can sleep... but I have an aversion to textures so I guess my hands are often curled up like that (so I don't accidentally rub my palm against something I don't like)

Speaking of sleep, good night!

Oh, and i din't think you should give up Hobbes - it's your little quirk, and it's only going to be acceptable to others when it's ok w/you!

Great name for him, BTW. I love C & H... :D

Wait wait wait... you sleep with just ONE plushie and you're asking whether it's normal?

Honestly, the opinion of the masses can go rot. If you need to cuddle a plushie, not need to cuddle a plushie. It's nothing to be ashamed of, really.

(Then again, given I'm of a subculture where several people I know have dozens piled on their beds, I might be a little biased here. ;p )

I have been just reading for a couple of days (figuring out what goes on in my kid's head) but this thread caused me to sign up.

Two cents - lots of people like to cuddle, be it with people or things, or things in lieu of people when need be - I stuffed animal is no different than a pillow, it just has a funner shape, and for lots of people, texture. 8O :D

Mine was a toy cat called "Skimbleshanks" from when I had an Andrew Lloyd Webber obsession.

Then I couldn't take him with me to NZ, so I got a toy orca called "Tricky"

All my stuffed toys have names. I won't list them here, because there's so many.

I'm 28.

I remember when I used to have a toy of this computer character called Reader Rabbit.

I was heart-broken when I lost him.

i used to sleep with three, but my arms would be tired when i woke up
the other two animals were:
a rabbit, angel-ebony, i named it after ebony mau, a lop ear dwarf rabbit that we had as a pet, she died a while back
a cat, picssi, i named it after two pets that also died, both of which were my moms, sissy, a greyhound (it thought it was a lap dog) and pixxel, my moms cat...
