I don't understand it in the original or the FX remake.

It doesn't seem natural to the character. Maybe it's a failure ofi imagination on my part, but I don't understand this part of the story. Why does he just have sex with the widow?

Is the idea to show that what Saga/Sonya does when she looks for sexual gratification is not so different and extreme as it might at first seem? Is there some bigger idea about how M is vey flexible with rules and obligations?

His behavior is mystifying to me. Does anyone else get this (or not)?

Edited to add: I guess I am trying to figure out if I don't get this because i am autistic or because I am monogamous or because its a bit forced in the writing?

No I agree, it doesn't seem to fit with his character. He seems devoted to his wife, so why stray? I was very confused why that was put in the story.

Thanks, Knit!

I really was surprised and it was presented in such a matter-of-fact way, I just was baffled.

I'm the same -- when it happened in Broen, I was completely nonplussed (btw, what was that with the wig? Did any of you who watched the original get that?), just because it seemed so unlike M.

SPOILER:
Then again, without those scenes, the main villain's motivation would be even more obscure and hard to believe than I already thought it was, so. Though they might be going another direction with the FX version, so who knows.

I also feel maybe it's just to let us see in how many ways his home life isn't going that well, either -- btw, I felt that the issues with his son are given much more screentime in the original than in the remake so far; does anyone else share that impression?
