On a FB group for the IQexams website . A couple of replies I got .

Quote:
Therapy has shown little to no meaning when it comes to autistic persons. Asperger ppl do not listen to others and have trouble understanding the same.

There is no sharp difference between narcissistic persons and autistic. Samantha Rodman, Ph.D., licensed psychologist: "With Asperger’s and NPD, a lot of the criteria overlap. The difference is that while all people with Aspergers are narcissistic (not NPD, but self-centered; it’s a central trait), all people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder are definitely not aspergers, and can be the total opposite: super smooth and charming.".

Quote:
Susan Heitler (Ph.D.) "Many spouses in my couples therapy practice express relief when they hear my speculation that narcissism may be a milder version of what with increased severity would become Asperger's--and with even more self-absorption and difficulty taking in others’ perspectives would be labeled autism."

I don't associate Asperger's with narcissism. One doesn't have much to do with the other.

Like the article said, one could be narcissistic without having Asperger's (probably the majority). You can certainly be Aspergian without narcissism (probably the majority).

Again with people, mistaking forms of trauma and personality issues with developmental delays, communication issues and not to mention one sided crap about empathy.
Again with people, mistaking behaviors and reactions from 'attitudes'.

Better off numb -- oh, wait! That makes one less human, unfeeling robots and unempathic!
Be sensitive. Nope! That makes one crybabies and entittled spoiled brats.

Can't people figure why autistics, no matter how socially willing, no matter the intellect, act 'self-centered' beyond their usual presumptuous crap?
Do people even realize that autistics themselves are usually surrounded by humans who are much more likely couldn't reciprocate them back? Do people realize said humans are mainly NTs, even decent in character in function, can still be just as ignorant?
Along with one-sidedness of empathy, presumptions on how the human mind works and expect said autistics to learn and develop automatically while at it??

So yeah. Another case of validating their own speculations by supporting the 'perpetrators' themselves, intentionally or not. 8) No different from saying that autism is a form of mental illness, never mind 'why' though!

People who dislike people with ASD are fools who are just jealous of our extended capacity for intelligence.

To some precious lil "people" (neurotypical), autism symptoms could appear the same as Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Misdiagnose

When my mom was alive she had the nerve to tell me that "autism means selfish"

Slippery slope

Miscommunication

Misunderstood

That's like saying  prader Willi syndrome  means greedy

I have found the opposite to be true. Although it may be more difficult for someone with ASD to display their emotions, many often feel just like everyone else. I say often because everyone is different. If anything, I have found more support from the aspie community than from most previous psychologists who would try to use whatever I said as proof of an idea they had already constructed based on their dissertations or areas of expertise . While there are certainly people with ASD who are also narcissistic and some overlap in symptoms due to misunderstandings, that is a far cry from using a blanket double diagnosis.

It is my observation that most people who presume to have the expertise to judge what is or is not narcissistic are usually displaying an exaggerated perception of their comprehension of psychology and their ability to read other people's behaviour; which one might say is a rather... erm... narcissistic personality trait.

Of course, it's an easy mistake to make. The typical narcissistic inflated sense of self importance perfectly explains the high prevalence of low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression amongst autistic people. And what better psychological tools could one have at one's disposal when callously manipulating people than poor affective empathy and the "impaired theory of mind" which the very same accusers usually allege?

Allegations of narcissism usually say far more about the accuser than the accused, IMHO.

I don't see any connections between AS and narcissistic ways.

So sad. I'm sorry for the ignorant and unsupportive environment.

I see the belief of general "selfishness" as mistaken assumptions about ASD communication style and insecurity.

I've met autistics who I believe have strong narcissistic traits. It's not that common, though. Basically, autistics have personalities just like everyone else.

People who conflate autism with narcissism probably met a couple of those people and drew conclusions based on that. If you've met one person.....

A couples therapist who conflates the two probably comes from the psychodynamic tradition. They seem to have a hard time understanding the difference between cognitive and affective empathy. If you can't make a reasonable guess at what is driving a certain behavior, you won't be a very good therapist. It's really just projecting your own crap on others.

personally speaking i believe the personal making these opinion as a professional , should most likely have their credentials revoked and seek mental health help themselves , Or at least some legal overveiw of their practice. just my humble opinion.
