Hi,
Has anyone else got farsightedness? My optician told me I was very young to have it. I was told this about 14 years ago.

Thanks.

Yeah, I have it. I've always had it a little. Why do you want to know?

I think it's trait of Aspergers and ASD people. This cross my mind today after reading what a German optician was saying.

What did that optician say exactly?

I sincerely doubt that far-sightedness is a (general) trait of autism/AS. A quick google search also turned up nothing on a special relationship between far-sightedness/hyperopia and autism or even between presbyopia (decreased clarity of near sight that's most commonly found in adults around age 40 and onwards) and autism.

I read it somewhere, but I think there's a link, and it's an interesting thought.

I am slightly nearsighted, actually. I need glasses to read text on a blackboard or powerpoint. Probably from staring at a computer screen so long.

Both my children are farsighted. The eldest was diagnosed at 3 and a half years old and is quite badly affected. The younger one got diagnosed at just 2 years old. I got him tested because it often runs in families. His isn't as bad because he started wearing corrective lens at an earlier age.

I have never heard that it is unusual to get farsightedness at a young age and I know several other children with it. I have been told that most babies are born farsighted but in the majority it resolves itself as the eye grows. I have never heard of it being linked to autism before.

I got my glasses when I was 18 or so, just before I went to uni. I don't need them in everyday life, just for reading from a distance. My eyes are also slightly oval in shape instead of a perfect circle, apparently, which is fairly common.

I am farsighted, though I rarely use my glasses unless I am reading books.

Yes I am from the UK. I have not been diagnosed with AS, but the more I read about it I think I might have.

Yes. Extremely so, and have required glasses since I was 3 or 4 years old.
But this is the first I've heard of it being related to AS or that it's at all unusual in the young.

There have been numerous topics about vision quality on here. There has never been a clear pattern of anything. I, for instance, have extremely good vision of every sort. If I get too many B vitamins, my vision will sometimes have such great clarity that seeing the details of an entire landscape or room will be so overwhelming that I am forced to obscure part of my vision. My eyes will shut down other parts of my brain to process all of the details they are capable of picking up.
