Have you noticed this?!? Geez.

The Wrong Planet is the quintessential site for AS. We are Aspergia. "The online resource and community for Autism and Asperger's."

Anyway, why does our site spell check consider "Asperger's Syndrome" a typo? Try it yourself! Red squiggly typo line. Hah!

We ought to have an online Wrong Planet seance for Dr. Hans Asperger, telling him his namesake is "wrong" according to our site with an apology 8)

I've noticed this too. Mine also doesn't recognise "olds" as a word either. :?

Yeah, I've noticed it, too (do you use Chrome, by chance?). Soon though, it won't be a diagnosis anymore, when the DSM V comes out and it's combined into ASD.

I have HFA rather than AS - even though there are barely any differences between them, it's still a different name for the time being - so I'm looking forward to them being combined.

I find it interesting how often people on this site seem (to me) to only think of it as a place with people that have AS. I always try to be inclusive with my threads and posts and such, just saying "autism" or including both "autism and AS" or "autism of any form" etc. I'm not criticizing anyone/anything, just pointing out something I noticed.

My own view on WP is that it's the quintessential site for people with autism of any form - I can think of no other place I really talk about it.

Spell check is still behind.

The spell check is not done by the website. It is a part of the browser. As such, you can set a spelling exception to it by right clicking the word and adding it to the dictionary, at least that's how it works in Firefox.

I noticed this and thought it was rather Ironic. I narrowly resisted the urge to post a thread about it, perhaps I was distracted actually.. I noticed that reclusiveness is also not recognized despite being a real world.

As mentioned, the site does not have a spell checker! The spell checking is done by your browser using whatever dictionaries you have installed or just the default for your country. For Firefox I have spell checkers in British English and Modern French. Most Americans with have American English with their browsers.

I've also noticed that as well.

Connate.

Immomet.

Mirific.

Shakespeare, with red squiggles.

Computers don't think deep.

They just crunch info.

People, sometimes, too.

(italics mine)

Now, that is ironic. I am reclusive and my private world is quite real.

I've noticed that it does not recognize many words I use on a frequent, even daily, basis. There are a couple of words I spell correctly but I am not sure I spelled them correctly, that are not in my browser's dictionary, so it can get a bit frustrating.

Another limitation of spell-check--it doesn't catch typos that are spelled correctly. I came across the phrase, "Baptism washes away your sense." Also, "the Dead Sea Squirrels".

I've noticed several words to enter the mainstream lexicon aren't recognized either.

^^ Under Firefox, fixing that is just a case of verifying the spelling elsewhere, before right-clicking the word and selecting "Add to dictionary".

I use the "add to dictionary" function in the word processor (sure, it will red-line on another computer, but I do it for my own sanity, knowing full well it won't print witht he infernal red squiggle).

Why not fix it in the browser too?
