Interesting article about survival.
Although I have no idea what "alutistic" means ( it appears under the photo ).

I think it's just every subject in the media ; negative articles get more attention than positive ones. Journalists thrive on putting fear into the readers.

Also with journalism, impact and gibberish that plays with theory of mind, is more important in the media than, than the scientific/factual equivalent.
That's why astrology "check out your horoscope" material appears in most regular papers & "life" magazines, but astronomy is confined to people with "special interests".

You could see it as a negative, but isn't it interesting that the people capable of hacking into some of the world's most powerful organizations happen to have Aspergers' syndrome? It hints at a future where people with AS would be innovators in technological progress.

If they let us into the workforce? Yeah. We could do some useful things. We're extreme specialists and our skills could come in handy.

The battle in the meantime will be to insist on equality for disabled people--equal education, respect, self-determination. It'll be easier to show them what we can do when they don't start out with a presumption that we're incompetent.

I generally don't find these stories (http://www.latimes.com/news/nation/nati ... 0052.story) as heroic as a lot of people do. Just someone who did something stupid and got lucky.

“They say that those who are autistic are drawn to water,”
People lost in the desert and want to live are drawn to the water.

"Bronson told The Times that the desert landscape from which LaFever was plucked is as inhospitable as Mars."
Mars doesn't even have air

"his dog ran off"
You know you're in trouble when your dog bails
