If one could find a way to become deaf, could that salvage one's sanity from noise?

Is there anyone here who's deaf? Do you lead a serene life?

I'm not deaf, but I suspect even if I were, my life would not be serene. There are still too many smells floating around...

And I don't think I'd want to give up things like music and hearing my cats' voices just to shut out the awful noises. Although there are times I'd be very tempted...

I would love to be deaf, I fantasized about it as a child, it was quite an odd obsession.
I'm sure I would quickly love to hate it, though, since there are so many noises I love, like rain, and birds and I like listening to all my snails while they're eating in unison, hehe.

I think earplugs are the way to go.
