I sometimes hate large crowds because i feel short amongst a lot of people (esspecially if i see waves of people who are several inces taller than me). Strangely when i go too crowded bars and nightclubs with my friends at night i go on autopilot (maybe its because i drink alcohol?) and don't think so much about how tall i am compared too others but when i venture into a town by myself at daytime that is a different story.

is this a common reason why people with AS dislike large crowds? on days when i feel tall however i don't mind large crowds its just that when i feel undersized i start too worry and feel really self conciouss

i am going too this big town on monday too have a look around. although iam kinda dreading it if my little man syndrome complex starts kicking in again :)

Don't think I can relate. I'm fairly tall myself, so it takes a lot to make me feel short.

I'm also tall. What I hate about crowds is just the large number of people in front of me and all the stuff going on, especially if those people are in close proximity or even bumping into me.

Well some are not as lucky as you guys. it would be handy if someone who is not tall could answer this thread.

i myself am 5'9 1/2 - 5'10 in height (not tall not shot) which is bang in the middle. Seriously though u do get a lot of big guys over 6ft out in public and i tend too get jealous and annoyed off these big guys.

that said in big trainers and with my slim build i can look 5'11-6'0 so too others i may look on the taller side even though in reality i know i am not.

I'm a woman, but I'm short, 5'1'' in height. I think being short might play a part into it, since, if I'm in a crowd, I usually can't see anything around me. But the main reason I don't like crowds is that I'm terrified I will be stomped on, pushed around or trampled to death (irrational fear, I know, but I have it since I was a kid and, back then, it was more plausible). I feel lost and like I suffocate when I'm in the middle of a crowd. However, I'm okay at rock concerts, since I focus so much on what happens on-stage, that I block anything else around me...

The people in the crowd don't bother me it is the sensory overload that gives me anxiety.
I am only 5' 9" and taller folks don't bother me at all.
If a 14ft alligator close up does not intimidate me no human can! :D

My utter loathing for crowds stems from the fact that the loud talking, laughing and yelling makes me nauseous and slightly dizzy. The heightened probability of being touched doesn't help either.

While moderately short, I've never had an issue with other people being taller than me.
I do, however, dislike crowds.
Mainly for the following reasons:
1) I usually have somewhere to go, an agenda. Crowds contain "sunday drivers" - people who just wander unpredictably. Either blocking my path (ignorants!) or moving into my path, forcing me to deviate, bend, dodge, retreat, redirect....
2) Noise. The droning and mixing din of peoples' conversations, the humming, the footsteps... the noise
3) Smells. Possibly even worse than the noise, I have some days where my sense of smell just can't be tamed and I get really jumpy and high strung after encountering so many smells; perfumes, grass clippings, musk, deodorant, cigarette, etc. It tangles me up and makes the crowd my enemy.

There are other reasons in specific sittuations (ie mall crowds vs parade crowds) but you get the idea?

I am a mere 4'10" and I can definately say that my height plays a role. Its isnothing but a sea of elbows and belly buttons. I can't count how many times I've been burned by a cigarette in a crowd of people, people are so careless. Crowds are also loud smeely and overwhelming. I get the feeling I would STILL dislike crowds even if I were taller, although maybe not as much.

Wow, I have a completely different take on this. I know you'd like responses from other short people, but as a 6'2" man, I usually feel like I'm four feet tall. My brother had to tell me that my aunt her entire adult life wasn't quite five feet tall, and I didn't believe him at first. All my life she psychologically towered over me. The same thing in bars, I feel like a very small, unnoticed person ... which is why I haven't gone to one in years.

I'm 5'1 but I very rarely feel short. I tend to assume I'm the same height as everyone else, and while I know rationally that's not true, it's just how I feel. Only if I'm having a standing coversation with 2 or 3 people who are all over 6 foot tall, and having to crane my neck and move around to see their faces, do I suddenly realize, "Doh, I'm short!"

What gets to me in crowds is the noise, and if I'm having to interact with them, the super-saturation of social cues that I'm meant to be picking up on.

I feel like an animal in a crowd. I'd have to say, I think most people dislike crowds, except maybe performers and politicians.
