I don't do it, I could never do it (bleh!) but my dad does.

Anyway, he always just sits on the sofa, sucks his thumb, and he cuts off any silk clothes tags he finds, and he rubs it together between his fingers while sucking his thumb. He's done this for all the years I've been in the world, and more. I don't think he ever grew out of it, or found to like it later on in his life.

Another thing he does is stand and rock his knees back and forth, one at a time. Imagine the "dad dance" or being on a cross trainer, one leg in front of the other, but his feet stay in place. He just rocks one leg forward, one leg back, and keeps switching over.

I wonder if any of you do either, or both?

I don't do any of the stuff your dad does. Is he on the spectrum?

Eberryone has their own little stims.

I don't suck my thumb, and I don't do the specific thing with my legs that your dad does with his, but I do other things with my legs, like standing on one and swinging the other, and alternating between the two.

I have no idea to be honest, but he ticks a lot of boxes. He's never been diagnosed, or if he has, he's never told me.

I suck my fingers and have done since I was a tiny baby, I have a lot of oral stimming behaviour and I guess sucking my fingers is one of them although I've never thought of it in that way. My parents have tried for years to get me to stop but it's one of the best ways I know to calm myself down so I still do it a lot during the day and all night. Granted that it looks a bit weird now I am 24 but I don't care nearly as much as I possibly should.
I have a bunny toy which I feel and smell which I have always done. I also play with my hair between my fingers and rub it against my face.
I also stim with my legs and I jiggle in variety of ways when sitting.

If I am understanding your description correctly I do pretty much that exact same leg thing. Never sucked my thumb though. I mostly rhythmically bounce my legs and bum muscles which causes my abdomen to sort of rock from side to side. I also tense my neck muscles rhythmically. I most probably look totally crazy when I do the bouncing thing in public, I've caught people giving me very weird looks and people have mentioned it :/

Bilateral movement (which is what the leg stim is) is used in a number of treatments such as EMDR and stroke rehabilitation which is linked to neural plasticity.

I rock my knees as well but it is both at the same time instead of one at a time.
