Normally, I wouldn't engage in self-deprecating humour out of respect for my fellow Aspies and myself, but I have to make an exception to what I'm about to share with you. It's a true story!!

Years ago, just before I got my diagnosis, I was employed by a software firm (typical, huh?) and was stymied by the unspoken nuances, culture & politics there, in true Aspie form. I was well respected for my quality of work, but was frequently frustrated by others telling me one thing but behaving the opposite - people would seldom say what they meant, agree with me on things but actually disagreed as I discovered later "the hard way", and so forth. I approached a trusted colleague, my "work buddy" who regularly helped me with the street-smarts of the place, as to why I was encountering this puzzling behaviour - I asked him, why did people say one thing but intend another.

His response: "well, I think you really need to be more aware of what people are NOT telling you."

My reply to that was: "What do you mean - I'm not a paranoid schizophrenic."

Quite the irony, isn't it - I asked for advice on how to avoid literal interpretations with people, and I interpreted his advice literally!! !

What's that rifle?
It looks like a colt receiver or M-16/AR-15 but I don't recognize the barrel/shroud.
oh, wait, lemme guess. . . an HK416N?

2 seconds of googling later. . . yep! Kewl!

Edit
oh, it looks like the barrel guard is off of it?

The 'of' after the 'off' is an unfortunate but common grammatical error people make to see if I will get a stroke.

Took me a moment but I see.

Unfortunately on my side I only got a manager that said "You got warning signs" when I told him I'd soon be evaluated. Bleh. Well, Mr. Manager, I've got warning signs that you're frankly not a good manager!

very dry. to the folks whose heads this sailed over, my best diagrammatic SWAG would be to say there is an incongruity between "work buddy"'s meaning and Jayo's interpretation of that meaning. "work buddy" was warning Jayo to learn to read between the lines of what people say [IOW how they hint at things they are uncomfortable about saying blatantly or in full measure] whereas Jayo misconstrued that to mean an accusation of a form of mental addlement. this all reminds me of a conversation between an old [hard-of-hearing] man and his geriatric doctor, who tells him "you've got to get that blood pressure down," to which the old man replies quizzically, "pressure brown?" to which the doctor replies, "no, we'll discuss THAT problem later, first we have to get your more emergent condition treated," to which the old man quizzically replies, "but i don't have constipation..."

But wouldn't a paranoid schizophrenic be even more aware of what people are not telling (not even trying to tell) him?

I wonder how many people here will get this:

"What don't you understand about the fact that I don't speak English?"

Thank you, Zokk, but I'm not stupid.

The OP's joke does not make sense for the reason I gave. I'm capable of understanding that type of joke.

You'd be surprised how many people don't get it immediately; it takes some NTs several seconds to figure it out.
