It has been suggested by several people as of late that I attend an autistic support group IRL to be around others "like myself," and I was just wondering if anybody has any experiences or ideas on the matter Would it be worth attending (awkwardness and all) to be around people I can relate to and maybe discuss things with, or would it be a big waste of time?

My mother, who runs a group says: What's the harm in going along?

This is essentially my mindset, and I'm sure I'm just looking for excuses to claw my way out of it.

I've been in an irl asperger support group for 10 years and it has litterally changed my life, making me more aware of who I am and what I can do. And I've found friends for life and even a girlfriend from the group. You can just go and check it out, if you don't like it at least you've tried.

Having contact with people with Aspergers and not is like day and night as far as what I have experienced. I would guess that it is very essential for someone with Aspergers. I don't know how it would be for someone with autism. They say relating to others is very important

You may as well go. It could help you :)

I have never been to one myself. This is because I don't really know of any around Perth and stuff, but still, I would if I could :)

They can help quite a bit as there will be people there that understand what it is like on the spectrum and there is no judging by other-well 99.9999 percent no judging. I like support groups and being with others like me-a lot less hurt.
