I just left my bathroom and notice the newspaper on the floor for my
small dogs had an artical about Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome and how it
has many feature like autism. Anyway its very rare (500 cases in the US). Its
cased by the inability to make or use cholesterol. Some features like autism (low functioning) include: delayed speech, eye contact avoidance , avoid showing affection.
The kid in the artical also bit his shirt collars, slap himself in the head with both hands,
throw himself on ground in tantrums.

Anyway its kinda interesting how lack of cholesterol can do that. The treatment options
involve taking cholesterol. But it reminds me of omega-3 research. Alot of mental health issue have a link to lowwer blood levels of omega-3 but their is not alot research suggesting omega-3 can treat such conditions. Like the cholesterol in SLOS
treatment its effectiveness is only alittle I guess.

Thanks for posting this, very interesting.I work with a client who I assumed was autistic also has CP and reversed organs and some other physiological abnormalities.I am going to copy this article to give to the parents. The article seemed to imply that the addition of colesteral could help in children but said nothing about age of intervention. The client is 21 and I am wondering if it would be helpful to provide some form of treatment now.At the moment, all he receives is a multi-vitamen.

Yeah, it's interesting! I once read about how someone found a class of nutrients and named them. LATER, they found ANOTHER class of nutrients, and said they were LIKE the first! STER-OID(STEROL-LIKE)! YEP, the first ones were sterols, and the most popular one is chole-sterol! TRUE STORY!

The guy who thought had autistic should of had a blood test taken, to rule out any other disorders...

After birth, a blood test can determine whether someone has the disorder. The test looks for low levels of cholesterol, as well as higher-than-normal levels of a precursor of cholesterol.

Where can I go for more information on SLOS?

The artical I read was a newspaper laying on my bathroom floor. The link I provided
was one of the first ones I found on google so people could get some back ground information on the condition. I'm not submitting this thread as a doctoral thesis and did have a team of research scientists and lawyers reveiw it so it pass muster with
every pedantic person in the world.

"Huston....we have a troll".....I just finished the near illegible trolling about "drug use and AS...."Now it all makes sense.I was beginning to wonder if all those hits of acid were causing some sort of flashback.I am relieved to find it is only dyslexic Dutch speaking trolls.(scarier then any thing I ever hallucinated about in my misguided youth.

He asked if english was my language ---

I reply no im dutch :/ :)

I was been sarcastic.....

And I have read your posts and asking if I should give this information to the parents of someone who I thought had Autism...

" heres something harsh - I am sick of all these people that have no clue what they are doing - unless your out of training you should not be evaluating someone on your own...

And if you did have a diagnose you would know a blood test should be taken to rule out other disorders... With all the other things he has the doc would have to be blind not to see a blood test must be taken on this client...

It's not a new thing ...

Pedantic people do tend to get "sick" about things like this.

machine no its called unnessicary course stress to famlys by not giving the personaly diagnouse to a proffisional that won't start spit junk out on ones opion of Autism thats stress for the family - now she wants to tell them he might have this...

I got this from a site but I hope I got it right that your just using another word that can also be Ad Hominem as called by in other site by shad...

2. pedantic: too concerned with details or fine distinctions and too ready to criticize minor errors ( disapproving )

Can't be bothered to look up the word so im using wiki you keep calling me thing's that bs I could probably shift through a fhew words and start calling you junk...

Pedantry can also be an indication of certain developmental disorders. In particular those with Asperger Syndrome, or Higher Functioning Autism, often have behavior characterized by pedantic speech.[1] Those with Asperger's tend to obsess over the minutiae of subjects, and are prone to giving long detailed expositions, and the related corrections, and may gravitate to careers in academia or science where such obsessive attention to detail is often rewarded.

Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder is also in part characterized by a form of pedantry that is overly concerned with the correct following of rules, procedures and practices.[2] Sometimes the rules that OCPD sufferers obsessively follow are of their own devising, or are corruptions or re-interpretations of the letter of actual rules.

detection of this disorder been round since the 60s ....

he has deformity

Why could this of been prevented if her opion of him having autism was seeked by professional help one of the things they do is....

Take your blood.... to rule out other disorders

After birth, a blood test can determine whether someone has the disorder. The test looks for low levels of cholesterol, as well as higher-than-normal levels of a precursor of cholesterol.

Called unprofessional conduct, i am sure you can get sacked over it...

They are probably 100+ dif disorders that can explain things... but that’s why you seek professional help...

You will probably take dentist with a person that learned it from a book to do your teeth…

might be good but you need the licence -- he replys don't worry i get my teeth done all the time my opion counts..

Let them but people who have not gone through diagnoses and all the people after that - that did not have a person with who had a clue what they where doing - and end up going private because of them...

Probably have about 40 diff disorders given over an opion if i stayed with them...

I think I will let WP members decide if the above statement is routed in pedantism
or your concern for familes.

Their is nothing "junk" about the information Krex intends to provide. SLOS is not
routinely screen for in blood test. If an ultra sound detects earily physically abnormalities that may lead to detailed testing. Its certainily possible their are young adults who have SLOS unknowning in the US. If she provides this info and its does not apply to the family I doubt they are going to be stressed by it! If it does apply it might be helpfull. Its just that simple.
