My head is constantly buzzing with scientific theories about things, ideas, things that I can apply formulae to and calculate, and things to research. The only reason I actually sleep is because of my meds. Without them I'd be up most of the night every night calculating, reading and theorising.

Does anyone else have this?

I enjoy this constant buzzing.

I completely relate!! !! My brain rarely shuts up! Although I enjoy it, it does cause issues for me, because I have so many things I need to do every day and yet spend the majority of my time researching my latest thoughts/ideas... I am a complete Google addict ;) Sometimes it can totally take over me and I dislike that aspect, but for the other times I definitely enjoy it.

From what I hear the lack off an off switch is pretty common for aspies. Its why i have the rare combo of sleep apnea and insomnia. I've learned too think about mundane things and it usually lets me fall asleep. I won't take sleeping pills i already have enough meds between my ADHD, hypertension and high cholesterol...

the same thing happens to me. it does have its downsides, for example it takes me hours to sleep. when I have a task that has a bit of downtime it can be hard to start again as my mind is off onto something else.

You could always try and write those ideas down. I do that sometimes. Once you have the ideas written down, save them until you do have the money or materials to do them.

I am also kept awake at night sometimes because of those very same reasons, but I've discovered if I make sure I am tired enough when I go to sleep, I will go to sleep without any problems.

My meds aren't for insomnia btw - they're for psychosis. Side-effect just happens to be sedation.

I'm much the same way. The best way to describe it is that my mind is like a UN meeting of drunken monkeys on acid. When I need to sleep, I find that placing heavy things on myself helps redirect and refocus my mind on the pressure the object is exerting on my body rather than the "noise."

Yeah, this fits for me, this happens when I have a task that I get stuck on. My mind don't switch off and I think systematically how the task can be solved. This is within games or my computing interest. If I do think of a solvable solution to the problem, the thought is practically glued to my memory until morning and even until I get the opportunity to solve it. I find writing down the solution helps a bit to relax and think that little bit less.

My brain is going constantly. And it doesn't have to be anything of great importance. Conversations I've had during the day, memories of things I've done in the past, noises I've heard outside, temperature in the room, sexual thoughts -- and all with a musical soundtrack, because I have songs running through my head constantly as well. I'll wake up with a song that I haven't heard in 10 years going strong through my mind. I wish I could just shut it down like I do my computer or the light. Once it got so bad and so LOUD that inside my head I screamed "STOP!" The odd thing was....it stopped. Entirely. My brain went completely quiet and I was able to fall asleep.
