Has anyone become so deeply engrossed in an obsession that their personality changes because of it? My current obsession is futurama (go watch it, its amazing :D ) which just replaced my obsession with the simpsons ! :P Anyway, my jokes and the way i communicate have changed since my obsession started! Before, my sense of humour was deadpan and cynical and now its just off the wall bizarre and abstract! Its only a matter of time before I start believing im a cyclops!...or a hideous lobster thing! See what i mean? It could be just because my obsessions are usually tv shows and I learn a different way of socialising through them but has anyone else experienced this??
Many thanks!
:D

Yes. Lol. Same thing. I've heard that many don't think they are anything without their obsessions. And I can understand that.

Yes, in my case Sherlock Holmes combined with Green Day. Very weird.

My special interests in animated films and the Cars movies have made me both a Classic Car buff and an Animation buff. :D

My new found obsession of The Kinks helped me to change for the better and get my life back on track, in the early September of 2009. I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread and I still do. The only downfall was that I couldn't understand why more people on WP didn't congratulate me and celebrate with me.

I have always been obsessed with cats and rabbits, so my personality is kind of like hoooman me + cat me + rabbit me, and I often think of myself as a cat or a rabbit instead of a hoooman. I think that I am a furry, maybe.

Gee, I'm sorry. :( I don't think I was here back in 2009; otherwise I would have congratulated/celebrated with you. :D

All the time.

I remember once, i was obsessed with Futurama and Gintama, like if those two shows were connected somehow.

My humour was so futurama + gintama in that time. :D

Yes I get obsessed with a certain series of novels and it changes my personality including the way I talk. When I was reading and re-reading the Harry Potter series (not that I'm done with this.....I'll probably come back to it some point...still one of the best series of all time but I'm on the legend of Drizzt now) I started using British idioms like 'mad" for insane and "blimey" which people laughed at because they aren't used at all in Toronto, Canada.

Definitely! I thought I was the only one that was THAT obsessed with TV show/ movies, etc.. As a kid it was Pokemon (I'd have a meltdown if I missed an episode), then Rurouni Kenshin, then the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (must have seen all three in theaters at least ten times each), X/1999, and I guess no surprise with my avatar, BBC Sherlock. And these obsessions definitely set a routine in my life. You can easily say I have an obsessive history...

I sometimes "absorb" the styles/mannerisms of TV characters, at least for a while.

Also, this website has *encouraged* me to insert tropes into everyday discourse.
