Why does the noise of scrubbing annoy me really bad?

I really hate it when I hear that scrubbing noise, where someone is scrubbing a sponge really fast backwards and forwards on a small dirty patch, on hard floor. Ohhhh, it really drives me insane! I don't mind if I'm doing it, and I don't mind if I can see someone doing it, but when I'm in the next room and I can hear that noise, it seems to make me want to have a meltdown. I don't know why. It's not loud or anything, it's just a noise that really annoys me.

Is anyone else annoyed by scrubbing noises, or is it just me?

@Joe90 - Are you okay these days? a lot of your posts over the past few weeks show a person in need of a big hug. Seriously! A lot of the time you seem distressed. It makes me worry.

That's probably misophonia, a hatred for certain noises. I have it too, but for me it's when I hear people laughing , partying or stomping on the floor. The reason is that you connect the noise to something else, so it's not the noise that annoys you but its "meaning".

Both I and one of my daughters have misophonia. She hates the sound of plates being scraped, which is similar to your hatred of scrubbing sounds. Your problem certainly sounds like a variety of misophonia to me: the trigger sounds of misophonia do not at all need to be loud or sudden or high-pitched. As long as you can hear them at all, they can cause intense distress.
