I've noticed a lot of my family and friends and acquaintances seem to spend a lot of their spare time going out of their way to find things that make them upset, be it on youtube or in politics or on the news. The news actually seems to be pretty much entirely for this fascination's sake. I very rarely engage in this but it seems to only happen when I am happy and content, which is rare in of itself. What about you folks? Do you tend to seek out things that you dislike? Or do you avoid them like me?

i prefer to see things that are pleasant and that i agree with, but i'm for obama and i read about romney. you have to know what's going on to be able to have a say in the wider world. i don't watch football or nascar or boxing, because i don't like seeing people get hurt. i consider these unnecessary negatives, while current events are necessary.

Self-righteous rage ftw
From some blog I read, google and you'll find it... wrote:
Self-righteous anger can also be very enjoyable. In a perverse way we can actually take satisfaction from the fact that many people annoy us, for it brings a comfortable feeling of superiority. Gossip barbed with our anger, a polite form of murder by character assassination, has its satisfactions for us, too. Here we are not trying to help those we criticize; we are trying to proclaim our own righteousness.

I used to do this with PETA (that animal organisation), by going onto their website and yelling at it. I don't do it any more, too much energy consumption. I prefer TED talks.

I try to avoid unpleasant, horrible things. I don't watch the news or read the papers because half the stuff in there bore me and the other half upset me.
