I've noticed a lot of my family and friends and acquaintances seem to spend a lot of their spare time going out of their way to find things that make them upset, be it on youtube or in politics or on the news. The news actually seems to be pretty much entirely for this fascination's sake.
Self-righteous rage ftw

Self-righteous anger can also be very enjoyable. In a perverse way we can actually take satisfaction from the fact that many people annoy us, for it brings a comfortable feeling of superiority. Gossip barbed with our anger, a polite form of murder by character assassination, has its satisfactions for us, too. Here we are not trying to help those we criticize; we are trying to proclaim our own righteousness.
I used to do this with PETA (that animal organisation), by going onto their website and yelling at it. I don't do it any more, too much energy consumption. I prefer TED talks.
