Why dogs are better than people
I feel like dogs understand me more then anyone else and I understand them. You don't have to think a dog is lying or being sarcastic. The weird thing is there are only a few living things that I allow to touch me. Only 1 without permission. My mom is one but I still need her to ask. and my old dog Shadow. Shadow use to sleep next to me in bed and when my alarm went off for school if i weren't up she would lick me until i was. When I came home from school I greeted my dog first before anyone else. She would jump on me and lick me. Sometimes even knock me over. Back then I wasn't on my computer 24/7 I was outside with her 24/7. I don't know why it was. I feel weird that I loved my dog more then even my family. Is that weird. When I was stressed from a reading assignment Shadow would come over and lay her head on my lap and pretty much say read it to me. She didn't laugh when I struggled on easy words nor did she care how long it took me to finish a sentence. She wouldn't judge me for rocking or hand flapping. As I am writing this I am tring hard not to cry because I am really missing her. There is nothing I loved more than her. I don't really know if I knew she was sick. I must have but I must have just ignored it. But the day I came home and she wasn't there I was actually hospitalized for trying to kill myself. I am sorry I really can't write more now. I am just really missing shadow ![]()

Someone once said that there are only four times when a man is permitted to cry: At his mom's funeral, at his wife's funeral, at his child's funeral, and when he must bury his dog.
I'm very sorry for your loss.
EDITED: I originally had a list of "Dogs are Better Then People Because..." one-liners, but regretted attempting humor on such a sad occasion.

Oh I just realized that you may think that Shadow is dead. No, my mom told me she had limes diseces but now she is better and living on a farm. I still am really sad about her having to go but I am glad she is happy and my mom says she has her own puppies. There isn't a day that goes by where I don't think about her. My mom says maybe one day we can get one of shadows puppies.
Why do you feel that people with autism would rather be with animals then humans?

It's good to know that Shadow is okay.

Thank God Shadow is okay. It still reeks that you can't be with her, but at least you know she's happy. For me, it's more cats than dogs, but I still relate more to dogs than to people most of the time. When I was a kid, I'd pay attention to any cats around, then any dogs, than any other animals, and ignore the people. I still do that a lot more than I'm supposed to.
A cat was the first "person" I figured out had thoughts and feelings outside my own. She was a kitten, orphaned, and we had to bottle feed her. She was only nine months old when she died, because the vet murdered her. I was only six at the time, but that isn't just my opinion. The people in my town who remember him still talk about him... He murdered my second cat, too, when I was twelve. That cat was only two and a half. He never got a chance to touch any of my other cats. And I'm picky about my vets ever since then. Probably more than you wanted to know, but this just got me thinking.

Dogs are better for the very reasons you listed.
Do you like the show Dogs 101 on Animal Planet? It is a very interesting show because you get to learn all kinds of different things about different breeds. My kids record it so they can watch it over and over again. It's not the same as having a dog, but my kids really enjoy it.
Would you be able to walk a neighbor's dog? Or volunteer at an animal shelter? That would help you get some contact with dogs, even though you don't have your own. Or if there is a veterinarian near you, he or she might let you volunteer to help care for the animals.

I used to have a cocker spaniel named Siegfried.
One time I had to take him to the vet when my pickup was broken down and my only transportation was a motorcycle. Going over there, he rode quite well -- actually seemed to enjoy it.
I left him for the day and picked him up that evening. The vet had given him something to calm him down while working on him. As a result, carrying him home on a motorcycle sitting in my lap was about like carrying a half filled water balloon in my lap. If I had to do that again, I would find someone with a car to carry him home for me.
My current dog is a half Great Pyrenees named Whiskey. Here's a picture of him as a puppy:
I have fun with the name Whiskey. About the time that picture was taken, when I went back to work on a Friday afternoon after eating and playing with Whiskey, a coworker's Maltese started sniffing my pants legs. Paula, the Maltese's owner was talking to two women I had never seen before. I said to Paula that Willie must smell Whiskey on me. The two women she was talking to gave me about the dirtiest looks I've ever seen.
