Due to problems with making friends I have been diagnosed by psych with asperger. I also suffer from ADD. With conversations I tend to drift away very often and I do not have many friends. When I read literature about Asperger there was nothing I could identify with, except the fact that I do have difficulty making friends.

I don't know if asperger is the cause of this and I have been trying to find that out. I do not know if I have problems with non-verbal communication.

Also, I do not have problems with thinking with more then 1 perception. I can predict what others would think in a given situation. I am not very rigid and I am often too late. I do not get angry over small changes of plans. Never had obsessions/ hobbies.

So I want to know if it could be asperger.

I think you need a new psych. The discription you give does not explain why he ave AS DX.Your difficulty making friends could be social anxiety or other DX.What is your age and how much of your childhood did he base his DX on.As adults we can learn how to "fake" certain behaviors and use logic to figure out some social interactions but it usually takes a lot of work and is tiring. The things you have mentioned so far, dont sound like a DX of AS would be appropriate. Not everybody has every trait to the same degree but you should have more then"difficulty forming relationships."

Inattentive ADD alone can cause severve social cognitive problems simular to aspergers. How old are you? Unless your very young it maybe hard to determine if
you do in fact have aspergers. But the important thing is it does not really matter what
some guys in white coats say you "have". Just try to get support for the issues your having. Do you take meds for ADD? A high percentage of the people here have comorbit ADD with aspergers or just ADD anyway. So you will fit in fine here. Oh myself I do infact have inattentive ADD and likely from my knowledge of my childhood
highly likely aspergers.

It doesn't SOUND like it, but it could be hard to tell!

AS is often misdiagnosed as ADD/ADHD apparently!
The literature is BIASED! Unless you look at given examples, etc... it may lead to the wrong conclusion. The stimming, for example. when I first saw that, I figured WHO DOES THAT? I saw the examples, and said I do that, EVERYONE seemed to do it earlier. Then I noticed the definition DID say "This is also present in many normal children". WOW! So the key is that autistics may do it more, and never stop.

I can predict what people will do also. I think that is another bias. I DO sometimes find that I didn't pick up on something everyone else did, and my predictions ed up WRONG.

I used to always be EARLY to things. I did notice the lateness as a POSSIBLE symptom. Frankly, as a kid I was VERY orderly, and tried to be early. That might have been because of an early idea that if I got too involved, I WOULD be late.

I often don't get angry over changes in plans, but HAVE been known to.

The lack of an obsession/hobby is one thing that makes me doubt you have AS.

Do you have any odd sensory skewing, and were you hyperlexic before 3?

no, no.

I'm 22.

Yes, I am in fact being referred to another psych (one that is more specialised with asperger). I told my psych I don't really think I have asperger, but she didn't changed her mind. So I read a book about asperger (that my psych pointed to) and the description does not fit me at all.

But I do have trouble socialising. I can't seem to fit in very well either. I think it's at least partially due to ADD.

Psychologists are never good to recieve a diagnosis from for AS or much of anything for that matter. Go see an actual neurologist, they tend to be more accurate.

Steve,

It is very common for people with ADD to have trouble with socializing and making friends. So you are not alone in that. Even though I have AS, I was diagnose with ADD way before AS, so I had figured my problem was due to ADD. However, I agree with everyone else on this go see a different psych.
