they play rock and roll versions of christmas music, all with huge amplifiers, and incorporate lasers and LEDs into the music in a very big way, which they flash at the audience nearly constantly. you can't hear your own voice during one of their concerts even if you yell.

I couldn't handle it for more than a minute. I ended up spending an hour or more out in the snow by myself because I couldn't even stand to be in the building while they were playing. the noise and the lights and all the people was waaaaaaaaaay too much. they're big at christmas time so I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience. in retrospect it was easily the most major sensory overload incident I've ever had. I went into it expecting classical music (which I enjoy) and found my family and hour later and had to explain why I spent the entire concert in the parking lot.

No. I really enjoy the TSO, but I have only seen videos of their performances and it looks intense.

Yeah, I've heard of 'em, but their music sounds "grandmothery" to me. In other words, generic and bland. Playing 32nd arpeggios may be impressive, and extremely difficult, but in the end it turns out to be a boring chore, kinda like watching Yngwie Malmsteen dressed in a Mozart suit playing Beethoven on his guitar. Derivative, uninteresting and without soul. Music only a mother could love.

I don't know, I've found their music quite enjoyable. Not particularly boring.

For that matter, Malmsteen's not particularly bad either.

haha I don't like their music at all (no judgement for people who do, I have rather strange musical tastes, the last song I bought was composed circa 1400 BCE) I was just bringing them up because of the sensory experience.

It'd be a bit mean, but anybody who wasn't sure if a kid had an ASD could just bring them to that concert and see if they ran out of the building or not

also Yngwie is not my style but I know conservatory-trained neoclassicists who respect him, so...*shrug*

I was just looking them up because I got though listening to their Christmas Cannon song by them. That is the only song I have ever heard by them. It's just kids singing it. I have never been to their concert.

The Missus wanted to go see them. I thought it was over-the-top and bombastic. But it did have it's moments.
I would describe them as a latter day ELO playing Christmas music with Pink Floyd's special effects.
