It's not needed. It's like using a sledgehammer to hang pictures, using stem cells. I'm convinced 99.9% of health problems are usually just due in some way to nutritional or hormonal issues, and those things being out of balance. Like for me, I feel much better with just simply a good diet and taking some supplements.
There's lots of research like, even how just different amino acids affect ASD, gluten problems, etc. I'm trying out taurine tomorow, and I'll have to see how it affects me. People with Phenylketonurics used to be thought of as just being ret*d, but then once they figured out it did it, people were cured by simply eliminating foods.

I find research like this fascinating.
As far as misdiagnosing ASD with NVLD, I have NVLD also, I think NVLD is more or less just another "flavor" of ASD. I think of ASD as being a collection of neurological problems/differences, where there's some sort of commonality in them to bring it together. Even Hans Asperger made a differentiation from ASD caused by encephalitis and not caused by it. So NVLD is caused by brain damage somewhere along the line, but it presents very much like "Aspergers." So you still got "Aspergers" but it's caused by something different.
