I've come to grips with who I am, and I tend to be easily distracted/can't study in school, this has been the case since I attended school 20+ years ago. What can I do? I think I may also be lazy in everyday life, and that leads to problems when I have a job; and to both Qs, I have no straight answer(s) to.

My own problem is that I'm naturally lazy, I have HFA, and I'm on meds that completely kill my motivation to do anything as well.

There's no straight answer to that. I do feel very lazy myself, unless it is within a special interest, I literally do nothing and neglect hunger and hygiene. It is even an extreme effort to look for work without interest distractions. I also experience lethargy, and get physically tired from the most mundane of basic daily tasks such as cleaning. Other people do see that as a terrible "attitude problem" and "unwilling to get on with life and having life too easy".

Yeah... I seem to be averse to work.

Don't write yourself off as "lazy" immediately. Often times we are blamed for a character defect when in reality it's a disability we didn't choose to have.

If you look at it as a neurological problem rather than bad behavior, that's a really encouraging perspective to take. It lets you stop blaming yourself and start seeing it as a problem to solve. You can stop hating yourself for being a bad person and start taking some action, trying to work around it.

That and I tend to be Homer Simpson-like at times with myself.

I've never known laziness to be a symptom of Aspergers.

True.

I am not lazy, but I am easily overwhelmed..
So I regulate how much I work,
and to some that might seem like laziness.

Sometimes I think people confuse being lazy with being tired. In this day and age, we are made to feel guilty if we are taking a rest through being tired. It is perfectly normal to be tired, and for an aspie I believe we expend a lot more energy - mentally and hence I believe this manifests physically, though stress.
Am sure there are other explanations too though.

What has led you to believe you are lazy?

Anyone can be lazy. The preferable term for ''laziness'' in people on the spectrum is ''lack of motivation'', mostly caused by anxiety and/or depression, or just general bad time management or disorganisation.

I'm lazy and proud of it. It's a good thing I am otherwise I'd be really hurt by everyone telling me how lazy I am.

I really think what we perceive as 'laziness' is actually a coping mechanism for how overwhelming life can be. A lot of people, especially my Dad, think I'm the laziest person on the planet...can't hold down a job, still living at home, very little motivation to do anything and yet I still spend upwards of six hours a week bodybuilding with absolutely maximum effort and more than twice that practicing guitar. Even if your obsessions only involve reading on a certain topic or building ridiculous Lego robots or something (ha), I can't imagine such mental proficiency on a topic or practice can be the result of a truly lazy person. We've probably discovered, over time, that a more active life leads to a greater likelihood of sensory overload, meltdowns, anxiety, awkward social situations and the rest of Asperger's fantastic symptoms.

So I guess I am not alone in that regard.

There is a big difference between lazy and being overwhelmed.

I might seem lazy,i will happily walk up 30 floors instead of taking elevator, walk 30 miles instead of taking a bus.

Problem is tasks that might seem easy to other like say cleaning your house, there are so many different things that needs to be done, and use that for this. Its hard to start doing something when you dont even know where to start.

Remember once i needed a big piece of wood, i walked like 15 miles out to the store and bought it was 1 meter by 1 meter, and walked with it home, it took like 5 hours lol.. People thought i was crazy, but for me that is easier than being asked to take a bus or having to ask someone to drive me, stupid yeah, but thats life :S
