Listening skills

As an Aspie mahself, I felt this would merit a thread.

My listening skills are poor, to say the least, which explains why I am having trouble in life: I'm like Homer Simpson! I listen as badly as he does, and it's been plaguing me all mah life.

I learning it's a casual B game, and not a high-energy A game.

and it's like the philosophy of an Asian marital arts might be, like Tai Chi, of going with flow, of lightly directing flow and bending the path.

And also what I learned playing poker. I lived in Las Vegas for two years and played live table poker, upswings and downswings, I about broke even, lost money if I count the incidentals. But with eight or nine fellow players at the table, it's not about picking up subtleties, and that part surprised me. It's just about not burying my head so deeply in my own cards that I miss what is patently obvious right in front of me.

So, I apply this to social skills. It's okay to miss a nonverbal context communication the first or second time. I just would prefer not to miss it a third or fourth time.

How can I improve mahself in this aspect, my Q is?

I don't know how to improve my listening skills. I don't like to listen to people talk, and I have no idear what they are saying after a short while.

The only thing that has helped me is doing something else while someone is talking to me, but the other person is usually unqoool with that arrangement.

I've always had a great deal of trouble with listening. If I try really hard, I can keep up for about 10 minutes or so, but then... I don't know what they're saying anymore. They might as well be talking Chinese. If I *have* to listen, like for a study, I need to have it taped so I can listen to it again and again. I end up doing this so many times that I memorize what has been said. But in casual conversation I'm hopeless in keeping up.
