Just wondering about everyone's sense of humour, and what makes you laugh in life?

I find silly word play to be funny. Like if someone makes a mistake with their words and the result is something funny - I find this hilarious and always have (not in a mean way, in a friendly/fun way). Just conjuring up the image of the strange thing they said is really funny (or sometimes it is from my poor auditory processing, and I think they said something that they didn't). Or when people accidentally say something that rhymes.
Or is something silly happens that wasn't supposed to happen.

My best friend and I used to find it hilarious to mimic each other and ourselves (mainly ourselves if we did/said something that came out weird in our opinion) in exaggerated ways. We then would go through this strange back and forth mimicking of the action (kind of like chinese whispers but with actions) with each other until it became utterly ridiculous lol We have been best friends for 21 years though since we were 11yo.

Boy, writing all that out makes me sound even crazier than I thought ;)

I have a very dry sense of humour usually (which others rarely understand *sigh*), but the above examples are things which actually make me laugh out loud.

What about you guys?

Stand-up comedy makes me laugh the hardest. Last night, I couldn't sleep, so I watched the Late Show with Craig Ferguson. He made a joke about how Bill Clinton wished Hillary baked ladyfingers.

Odd things make me laugh, too. A few months ago, my Italian grandmother called her ex-husband a "cavoon", or a slob. Something about the word's cadence made me laugh so hard I cried.

I'm a supermarket cashier. Today a lady bought about 4 stuffed dog toys along with her vegetables, crackers, meat and paper products. I was slyly scrutinizing one of the toys as I was scanning it. It was uh squirrel? with no, a squirrel body without...then the bagger was scrutinizing it...it wasn't damaged... and the customer said; Yeah, it's a squirrel; body & tail, only. The three of us laughed our heads off during the crowed rush time.

Some dog toy manufacturer makes a squirrel (body only) toy. How's that funny? I couldn't tell you but believe me, it's hilarious.

Because I've laughed so infrequently, I actually remember the four times I've busted my side giggling.
One was during a Lucille Ball sketch.
One was during a Sam Kinison comedy routine.
One was during a Steve Harvey comedy routine.
One was during a comedy routine by a stand-up I saw live in Manhattan about 20 years ago.
I think that's it.

I find puns to be funny, but not usually to the extent that I laugh at them. I'm also sarcastic, dry, and silly. I know, soooo stereotypical, right?...NOT!

My Ohio friend tends to make me laugh. We have the same sense of humor.

There's some German word--schaudenfroid (I think I spelled it half German, half French there) that I think describes enjoying others' misfortunes. I can't get enough of bloopers, funny signs, and goofy accidents--especially in nature.

I saw a hawk swoop down onto a branch--and the branch broke. The hawk flung its wings up like a person would fling up their arms in surprise. It was funny to me that such a dignified bird would look so silly.

And I don't limit it to others. If something happens to me (and I'm not seriously hurting) I can laugh too. I closed my hair in the car door one morning at work. If anyone saw me, I hope they laughed.

You are right, that does look like half German, half French. It is correctly spelled Schadenfreude. However, it doesn't really mean what you think it means- it is more like gloating and revelling in the sorrow of others than laughing because they made a goofy mistake.

Got a dog toy once and the upper half was a rubber lion and the bottom half was a stuffed fluffy sheep. I laughed so hard because it looked like the lion ate the sheep and then was wearing the bottom half as pants. Also really disturbing.

Thanks. I wasn't quite sure if it was right. I will watch my language from now on.

The only things that get me to laugh with sincerity are:
1: People making stupid mistakes that they should know no to do (like the people suing a motivational speaker-like man who convinced them to walk on hot coals, resulting in second- and third-degree burns on the feet. Fire=hot. Duh!
2: Along the same vein as #1; people removing themselves from the gene-pool by doing something stupid. Darwin Awards material, though not always true, still provides plenty of laughs.
3: The bizarre things people do that sometimes, somehow makes the news. Like the stories of people putting things where the sun doesn't shine and being unable to remove them. I got a pretty decent chuckle out of the 50-year-old Croatian man and the 20mm cannon round. What makes the story even more hilarious is the fact that the unfortunate sexplorer was arrested after treatment for illegal possession. Why do people do these things???????
4: Random funny pictures, especially those involving cats doing strange things, coincidental images, some motivators and memes and badly-made product ads.
5: Odd things (like the headless squirrel MountainLaurel posted about).
6: Engrish or other corruptions of a language caused by ill translations.
7: Chris Chan videos.

I love Jim Butcher's writing style and humor. In The Dresden Files books he personifies emotions which I think is pretty funny.

One line that comes to mind when the main character was being held hostage and was informed that his people knew he was in trouble. (Don't remember the exact words)
"A little bit of hope filled me."

Then he was told that his people wouldn't negotiate.

"Hopes corpse went through a few post-mortum twitches as it lay on the floor."

I'll laugh at simple jokes, or silly things. Cynical jokes or "dirty" jokes get me really going, though.

lots of things make me laugh in life.

People who make themselves look totally stupid and then keep doing it after being told that's what they're doing.
The presidential campaign this year (although I cry more than anything because it's just that sad... that was sarcasm)
Good movies
funny situations (in life, movies, and video games)
sometimes my own jokes
my jokes being repeated at random not 10 minutes after I told them by a person that was nowhere near me when I told them. (yes, that actually happened lol)

there's more, but I'll just paraphrase it there.
