What does it mean when someone says you're in your own world? The phrase sort of confuses me.

It usually means that your focus appears to be on your inner world (your thoughts, fantasies, etc), instead of on what is going on around you.

Neurotypicals have a need to tell us that we're "in our own world" to satisfy themselves. As human beings, our perceptions globally arise from "our own world," so to speak, meaning we perceive via our minds.

Incidentally, if someone does tell say that you are "in your own world" (as opposed to, say, Mars or something?), then you might gently remind them to stay in their own, where they belong.

It means you tend to focus on your internal experiences (bodily sensations, thoughts, emotions, etc.) rather than interacting about yours' and others' internal experiences.
