I asked my dad if I could see a movie even though my friend couldn't make it. I wanted to see the movie because I read the book and loved it and I just really want to see the movie today. He said he wouldn't drive me and told me to see it another day because "movies are better with friends."
So I asked him if he was just uncomfortable with me being alone in the movie theater, but he said no, he just thought that movies are more fun with friends. He told me to bring another friend (he said this almost desperately), but I didn't want to. I told him he was wrong, and this only hardened his decision.

So, am I wrong to want to see the movie for the sake of actually enjoying the movie? Is that not what people do? Maybe he just doesn't like that I'd rather do something alone? He is very socially based and he doesn't know I have Asperger's; maybe that's it? I'm just venting here, feel free to share your thoughts.

I've seen movies alone lots of times and think it's weird that nts are so afraid to do things alone that they would rather not do them than do them alone. I've know of nts that won't eat outside of their home alone either.

I've no idea how old you are, so it's hard to give an opinion. If you're under 16, I'd say don't go alone to a movie theater.

And yes, parents desperately want their kids to be normal, even if their child is perfectly content being different.

Why is your neurological type to be hidden from your father?

I do not like going alone to the movie theater-I have gone to movies alone to see a movie I wanted to see but I would like to see it with others-I would rather see it with others. I am very lonely.

It's weird because people say that NTs don't like to do things alone, but when I ask somebody to go somewhere with me they're like, ''why can't you go on your own?'' Hypocritical, maybe?

I suppose it's not good keeping it from him, but if you knew him outside of what I've described him as, you might understand why I'm not telling him. He's not exactly the most understanding or compassionate person I've ever come into contact with.

Where I am from the act of doing something alone that is supposed to be social is somewhat frowned upon. Escpecially if you're not as confident in who you are that you couldn't defend the act if someone confronted you.. which is the case for me and probably many other Aspies. So it has consequences, but you shouldn't not do things alone, but balance it with other social activites. It shouldn't stop you that you have to go alone. because that would limit you too much.

I'm going to see Ender's Game by myself. My friend, who is also a fan of the book, can come along but I'll get annoyed if she talks too much. I'd probably prefer to go with another person more for anxiety reasons than it being more enjoyable. I suppose it is more enjoyable with a friend. Other people scare me.

I often go to the cinema on my own if I want to see a movie if I ask anyone they're not keen so I find it better to go on my own.

I don't have anyone to do things with except for my mother so I had better like doing things alone or I can't do things.
