So I was interview for ssi earlier this week and I had to list all of my various diagnosis and I listed Asperger as one of them and the doctor who was interviewing looked at me, talked to me for 2 minutes, and at the end told me 'whoever told you you had Aspergers is an idiot and doesn't know anything...I wrote the medical definition of Autism and Aspergers, wrote a book about it, and various medical papers - and you don't have it!
....I was rather offended...I mean when I go the diagnosis a couple weeks ago and I was able to FINALLY have an explanation for A LOT of things I felt like I finally was on track to figuring my life out and to have this 'expert' tell me I didn't have it was kind of frustrating..
If he's working for SSI, he is not an expert! and you have every right to be offended. If he wrote any medical definition it was for SSI's use, not the world in general. (if he is a "big fish" anywhere other than his own mind, it is in a small shallow pool)
