I haven't thought about this until recently a person told me that "you must notice music more" on more than a single occasion (weirdly he plays music, so I can't see how I'd notice some music while he doesn't). Music from video games is something that especially stayed with me... more than the graphics etc. after finishing the games themselves.

So, the thing that convinced me right now is... a bit weird. But I was both dissociated and high once (an altered state that would effectively lower the volume on the outer world and heighten all the inner sensations) and watched some amazing movies. I enjoyed many of them... some which are deeper than others, that struck more of a cord with me (a couple of metaphors so far, if anyone's noticed).

Now, in this state - as sensations are heightened - presumably, senses that are already heightened would be even further enhanced: ever since I watched these movies, on average a couple of times each (with the movies fairly short), I've been listening to some other music sometimes when I'm reminded of a particular scene from these movies with the accompanying music. For example, a certain motif of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6ivJBeIVLg reminded me of this. It may even be just the emotion itself - being very similar, or possibly identical (a certain 'hopeful hopelessness' in both of those pieces of music).

Hmm.

Speaking from experience: Could just be the dope.

Well, there is evidence that people that are especially sensitive to noise often are very musical.

It's the same for me. Unwanted noise can cause me a lot of distress, but give me a beautiful song and I'm in heaven. Where other people are often just like "yeah, I guess that's a nice song" I sometimes felt like a particular song lifted me to an other plane of existance (well that sounds spiritual, it's not meant that way, it just means they immensely touched me). Like this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIdmhPi7NQI Whenever I listen to that (and some other songs I love), I feel a rush of melancholy and longing. I think we tend to appreciate "good" sensory input more, since we also suffer more from bad input.

Oh I definitely agree with you there. I'm a musician, among many other things, and music is a huge part of my life. It goes deep. I feel like others don't understand that as much as I do.

as a child i hid from unpleasantly loud noises. but later on i was drawn like a fly to garbage, to euphonic sounds from a high fidelity audio system. i thought it was a miracle that electronics and mylar diaphrams in a very specific arrangement, could create an illusion of a musical performance in one's living room. :o
i've always been very sensitive to noise, btw- i cannot ignore background hiss or phonographic crackles, they stand out like firecrackers to me.
