Question 1: I need headphones that i can walk around the house with. because sound isn't the problem. it's whenever i am mad or upset somehow headphones over my ear's calms me down. and i wan't to know if there's anything built for this type of problem.
Question 2: Am i the only one that doesn't need headphones for sound just comforting? the weird thing is i don't got to be lisaning to music.

I will often wear earbuds with no music playing through when I am stressed in a busy environment or on a bus etc. For me it acts as a bit of a buffer against any potential expectation that I should interact with people when out and about. I sort of feel more justified being in my own little introvrted world with them in and things feel a little less stressful. I think it might be half the reduction in external noise and half the fact that being seen to be wearing earphones makes being in your own world more acceptable,

I often wear sunglasses in these situations too as long as it does not look too unusual for the setting.

Always. Whenever I leave the house, I have headphones. Big ones so that it's obvious I can't hear people so they don't try and talk to me. Particularly when I'm shopping, which is when I can have a meltdown, I wear them. Most of the time because the shop is so noisy I don't actually have music on, but I just find it comforting. I also like pressure on my head, so my over-the-head earphones do that as well.

I often use earbuds as a barrier to things around me, either with or without music playing.

At work I have a set of edz kidz ear defenders (I have a tiny head!) which I wear both as a barrier and because the pressure on my head calms me down. No music in them, obviously, because they're ear defenders not headphones.

If you don't want to listen to any music you can get those headsets people wear at the shooting range.

I had an ear infection for a week and my hearing was reduced by half. Best. Week. Ever.

I don't like listening to music often, so I sometimes just put my earphones in to block out sound - the silicone in-ear ones block lots of sound but don't look like earplugs, so they're good in public. It also stops people from talking to me.

It really does help to reduce the bombardment of noise from the outside world and reduces my anxiety.

I feel the exact same way.
On the days I forget my iPod when I go to work, it usually turns out to be a pretty bad day. I also always have my ear buds in whenever I go shopping. Sometimes I don't even have the ipod on.

Not my thing.
The pressure of the larger ones on my head is unpleasant, and the risk of earphones / headphones falling out / off tends to dwell in my mind.
Plus many interfere with my glasses.
Just one extra thing to think about.
Not my thing at all.

Have a look at Bose QuietComfort 15...
(please google them, I've new here and not allowed to post links yet)

I have a pair (they are quite expensive though!) and if you don't want to listen to music, you can completely unplug the cord and they will just run their noisecancelling-programme.

They are the best that has ever happenend to me and my temper :-)

Genius! I never thought of this. I listen to music because of this added benefit but I never thought about doing it without music. It would be good for places where I need my ears.

Oh man, am I the only one that kind of begins to panic when I can't hear anything? I've tried sleeping with earplugs but the longer I sat in absolute silence, hearing a slight ringing and my heart beating, the more anxiety I felt. I definitely prefer white-noise/fans to silence. I think the ultimate calming thing for me would be headphones that let in maybe 15% of the outside sound and also constantly played very light, white noise and/or generic nature tracks.

I have 4 different "ear things" that I wear, depending on my exact mood:

1- Ear plugs (when I sleep or to block out most sound)
2- Ear buds when I just need some music to concentrate on
3- Noise Canceling Headphones when I'm starting to feel irritated but still want music
4- Ear Defenders combined with either ear plugs or ear buds to eliminate ALL external sounds

You'll frequently find me with something in/on my ears :)

In my office I would always have on the biggest pair of headphones I could afford to own, sometimes for the music, other times just to be able to get some isolation. Since then I got promoted and I cant wear big headphones any more and the small buds I do get away with I can only wear one ear in case someone needs me (which is often) :( I have suggested the use of emails as the best way but it probably makes me seem like a mean person.... can't win this one.
