Okay, I've been doing a face poll here on WP. And I've also collected some additional information from people who've participated in the poll.

So far, the results are interesting. But I'm wanting to collect more information. At present, the majority of the people who've responded have been aspies (that's kind of a "duh" since aspies are in the highest numbers here). But I'm specifically wanting to call out some HFAs, PDD-NOS's, and just people who had a language delay to answer these questions if you will. (I'm still wanting aspies to answer as well, but I'm asking HFAs/PDD-NOS's to step up more).

So, if you're interested, this will be an anonymous data collection. It won't be used directly for any research; just to get some ideas as for where research into face recognition should be headed.

This is an autie-friendly, pro-neurodiversity, non-cure data collection. Just wanting to find out more.

If you don't feel uncomfortable answering in the open forum but do want to participate, you are more than welcome to PM me.

Also, a little down the line, I may be wanting to collect some more information on other skills in relation to facial recognition (spatial skills, artistic abilities, writing, etc.). Let me know if you'd be interested and I'll mark you down for when the time comes.

4) HFA as a child (1987) however as an adult, absolutly 100% aspie due to no serious language delays in childhood (aspringers did not exist at this time as a DX) and because I feel I am quite intelligent, possibly moreso then average, always refered to as the 'smart one' at work.

6) ??? - parents claim speech development may have been slightly slower then average but still were not to concerned. At age 4 I talked pretty well for that age.

7) I did repeat (and still do a bit ) but it was not pronounced id say, like I did not do it all the time.

hard to say,it's c or d,only recognise people by hair,voice or clothing,and the lines/shapes on people,am can recall some parts of faces,especially those with a lot of lines-but don't see a whole face as such and have been told by the speech therapist it's because of the visual perception problem am have,not diagnosed with the propag..whatsit [forgotten how to spell it],he says it gets worse with sensory overload as he did a lot of assessment on this and visual perception.

yes,the speech therapist am used to see is an autism specialist who works in the SS LD team,does not have mainstream authority to make diagnosis' official but he spent over a year with am at home assessing once every week,and compiled it into a book -parents,SS,staff etc have got a copy of it.

5. If you are diagnosed, what’s your precise diagnosis? Asperger’s? HFA? PDD-NOS?
the speech therapist has said it's classic autism-not HF,but not LF either.

6. At what age did you begin speaking? Early (11 months or under), average (12-15 months), late average (16-23 months), or late (24+)?
technically infant school age-but it was one word answers,and very basic echolalia,most speech was and still is echolalia.

7. Did you have pronounced echolalia as a child?
yes.

4. Currently diagnosed? yes, diagnosed by a psychologist, autism specialist, psychiatrist, neurologist, and a developmental pediatrician.

5. If you are diagnosed, what’s your precise diagnosis? Asperger’s? HFA? PDD-NOS? My neurologist said I have classic autism, but neither HF or LF either like kingdomofrats. My autism specialist who is also my therapist agrees with him. The other doctors say I fit the criteria for HFA.

6. At what age did you begin speaking? Early (11 months or under), average (12-15 months), late average (16-23 months), or late (24+)? Late, babbling at the age of 3ish, one worders at the age of 4ish, correct sentences weren't said until almost the age of 8.

7. Did you have pronounced echolalia as a child? yes

Being Normal Is Vastly Overrated

Hello, with regard to the diagnoses, I've had quite a few (every doctor seems to have a different 'opinion' ) and PDD-NOS was one of them. If you want answers based by diagnoses, would it be all right to include my response although I've had several differing diagnoses?

Oh yes, definitely, anyone's allowed and welcomed to answer, including more aspies. It's just that I had so many aspies and too few of anything else that it is impossible to come to any conclusions about non-aspie groups as well.

But I definitely want more of everyone to answer, wherever on the spectrum they fall, diagnosed or undiagnosed too.

5. Have been told I have frontal lobe problem "with elements of AS" but Dr was not able to do a full diagnosis as no input from parents

Just followed a link in another thread though and saw that to have AS there should be "no delay in acquiring age-appropriate self-help skills", eg dressing yourself.

I DID have a delay in these, so what the *$!& does this make me then?

I'm not PDD-NOS, so am I HFA? Now I'm really confused!

I worked hard on finding details to recognise faces for three years, but if details like hair, glasses and clothing changes drastically I'm still having trouble recognising my own parents and closer family.

I'm between b & c. I have vision problems, though, not prosopagnosia.

One of the diagnoses was PDD-NOS. I'm skeptical of the process, the doctor's I've met can't seem to agree on much of anything, and were too eager to toss pills in my direction.

I asked my father, he said 'about a year old'.
My mother guessed five or six months, she said it was long ago and her memory isn't the greatest sometimes. I don't honestly think either one remembers, I'm pretty sure they're guessing, although if I had money to bet I'd guess about a year.

7. Did you have pronounced echolalia as a child?
No. But I had pronounced palilalia (so did my brother, although he seemed to grow out of it while I still am, to a lesser extent so far as I can 'catch' my mouth moving every once in awhile after I think I'm done speaking) Sub-vocal, thank the gods, so people don't usually notice, I don't think.
