Hi there!

I don't know what the diff is between a stim and a habit. I play almost compulsively with my hair. This is more when I am stressed. And I almost always do stuff with my hands, though curiously never flap them.

As far as I know, autistic stimming is an automatic reaction by your body to compensate for sensory processing disorders. It usually happens below your level or awareness until it is brought to your attention.
If you almost always do stuff with your hands, that probably is autistic stimming because it is constant regardles of your emotional state.

Normal stimming is brought on by stress, excitement, etc.
