Subjectivity
Is this normal for Aspies to struggle with this?
I find it hard to express feelings about literature or music beyond 'it's good', or' 'it's bad'. I'm currently doing a creative writing course and find that I just want to right things down in a very matter of fact way. Plus, we are expected to critique other student's work. I find that really hard to do. Also I don't understand poetry, which is also part of the course. The reason for me doing this subject is to learn to write fiction but I seem to be going round in circles and have no idea if what I am writing is any good. Really confusing.
Last year I did a music theory course which was fine because it was mainly analysing scores in a purely academic way. An objective way.

I feel the exact same way in regard to everything you wrote. I remember always having immense trouble in High School English, trying to determine the symbolism or unspoken meaning of particular passages. As far as music is concerned, I find it very difficult to have any overall opinion on the entire piece and usually can only explain why I like a song by describing specific sections and then using very literal terminology like, "I enjoyed the guitar solo's melody change over the key modulation" or something, rather than "the melody was beautiful and memorable" or whatever music reviewers say these days. I also found it very difficult to critique other student's work in college English Composition because I could rarely develop an opinion fast enough to convey what I did and didn't like about it, ha, it was always on the basis of their grammatical accuracy rather than content. Man, it's tough, huh?
