Confusing Asperger's with Other Disorders

I have Sensory Integration Disorder, and I am pretty sure that i have Central Auditory Processing Disorder (going in to be tested for that in January, already diagnosed the former). The more I read up on these disorders the more I find similarities between their symptoms and those of Asperger's Syndrome. I've read that often these conditions can be misdiagnosed as ADHD or Aperger's symptoms, espicially if both are present in combination. They can also both be present alongside Asperger's. My question is, if I have both of these disorders, how would I know if I have Asperger's or if I only have sensory and processing issues? What are defining characteristics of autism that distinguishes it from these similar conditions?

And what is the difference between AS and HFA?

What is a High Functioning Autistic Disorder?
High-Functioning Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Semantic Pragmatic Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder etc.

been looking for ages for a site with all them on since people like looking at them....

Tone's can be mistaken that's why I don't get the 1 - 2 hour Diagnoses as took a year and a half with me...

OH MY FRIGGIN GOD! thats like the same situation that im in. And recently i've done alot of research on the topic, I mean CAPD fits me to a T and explains everything. Also your senses might be more sensitive if you have CAPD because your hearing is sorta impaired thus hightning your senses.

I've been misdiagnosed as asperger's and many people think im adhd.

There are a number of disorders that have symptoms that overlap with Asperger's. That is probably why there is so many misdiagnoses. You can also have multiple syndromes, since we are talking about spectrum disorders very often.

The common theme of assuming that don’t have Aspergers is common. I think that they confuse high functional autism with Aspergers.

I think the doctor who told me I had mild ADHD and possibly a mood disorder was confused (or ignorant - there's a better word :) ). All the symptoms that led him to beleive I had the aforementioned disorders are all aspie traits, plus the sensory issues which I thought I was the only one to have and was never questioned about...

As I understand it,in some countries or areas the terms can be almost interchangeable,
but HFA is more commonly diagnosed if there is less speech development in early
childhood.It also depends on the availability of AS experts in the patient's area and as
there are more support services for "Autism" in general,some doctors may feel it's in the patient's interest to agree on a diagnosis of HFA. The symptoms are so similar that for an adult especially there may be no meaningful difference.
