Hi
I have come here to share something about a great young lady, Alexis Wineman. Alexis was diagnosed with autism in the 7th grade. More recently however, she was crowned Miss Montana and will be participating in the Miss America Pageant in January 2013. This year, the Miss America Pageant is holding an online voting contest for the participants and Alexis is asking members of the autism community to show their support for her. If you are interested, check out her video online at http://www.missamerica.org/videocontest/ and vote for her. She would love the opportunity to take her message of awareness to a much larger audience and winning this online contest would give her a big boost toward that goal. She really is an extraordinary young lady who is an inspiration to many here in Montana.

Thanks for your time!

I don't mean to detract from this young lady but you would think that a contest representing the US population would have a few more black women. Anyway I watched her video and voted for her even though Miss America and other 'contests' like it make me want to vomit.

Ms. Wineman is a brave young woman and will get people thinking. Yes, even with an imperfect Miss America contest.

Thank you! I generally agree with you about pageants and stuff. I would personally rather endure all manner of torture rather than participate in, or under normal circumstances even pay attention to, something like this. In this case however, I can make an exception for this young lady. I also agree with you about the appalling lack of racial/cultural diversity among the contestants.

Good luck with that.

No-one is interested in autism.

Because as a subject it is too amazing for most to comprehend.

So it is eschewed.

no; quite simply.

"I'm running for miss America, better get a trump card up my sleeve since everyone else does."

Sure, autism awareness is great; but she's using this as an excuse for her own personal gains.

Got that and thanks. It is how I read it too.

I agree, was why I wrote "good luck with that".

"good luck with that" is read as sarcastic.

It is in the rules I just checked.

No swearing, no being unkind to others.

How extremely boring.

So I have had to edit. :(
